New Copper mine might be coming to the Porcupine Mountains

I wonder if it will happen. Those guys have been doing bore samples for over a decade. I've yapped with a few of them over the years and they say the samples show good product but it's deep. Their early speculation was shaft mining. They also mentioned that copper isn't the only material...

Stain on walls: what is it?

@LoveMyDobe , Those marks look like plain ol water stains. I'd also say that if nothing has changed in four years that's good news. Must have been a lot of water coming in at the time if it leaked through all the joints. Mold is a whole other issue. It essentially grows like a patch of weeds...

Stain on walls: what is it?

Free air movement helps a lot. Closet corners are notorious for being the first spots to have mold in high humidity.

    Clutch maintenance - worn parts

I've also done that bearing. The small screwdriver works great. It helps to have a small angle pick to sneak around the seal when you start. That will make it easier to start the screwdriver blade. I like using a needle tip on the gun and squirt grease inside the bearing. Just a heads...

    Clutch maintenance - worn parts

Weight pins are into the sheave assembly. Those are cake compared to working on the spider. It is not a small project if you go that deep into a rebuild. 8,000 miles are a lot, but you never know. I'd check your rollers before deciding on anything. If the rollers are good, check slop in the...

Stain on walls: what is it?

It doesn't look good. Is that bleed through staining? I'm guessing it does not wash off. You mentioned 40% humidity and 60 degree indoor temps in the door thread. That is high humidity with cold outdoor temps. Do you have the same temp humidity in the rooms with mold? How much condensation...

    Clutch maintenance - worn parts

There isn't a whole lot you easily can rebuild on the Team clutch. Weights and springs are the basic parts that can be swapped. Tower buttons aren't too bad. There are kits on the market that include a full set of bushings, pins, and buttons. I would stick to anything spider related. Even...

    Last year vs This year

What a difference a year makes. This was near Bergland on the 18th of March. The hill behind sleds is not a hill. I can't tell you what it looks like this year. I know there is no "hill" from parking lot snow.

    Grooming history

I don't know the exact time frame but Gene at Bingos and Jerry at Vansville talked about the same methods. Old barrels rigged as rollers and dirt field drags were used. Main goals were trying to pack a little and fill in the holes. They didn't use the term grooming. They talked about trying...

    Sunsets

Took a break from snow hoping and visited some friends. They live on the dry side so sunsets were pretty decent. Didn't see the green flash. Honestly, we had to be on our toes while sun was dropping over the edge. ;) It happens pretty fast with sun angle.

So.......I started a project, My new Garage!

Great idea with the flooring. It sounds like one of those better products that is super wear resistant. I have one area that looks like a similar product. I believe they called it Duraceramic, I know it's tough. You will enjoy the working surface and easy cleanup. I don't have scraps of...

    Today's ride

Dang. I had dreams of seeing sleds in the pic. Oh well, at least you had a chance to ride. Probably a bonus not playing with bugs.

So.......I started a project, My new Garage!

Looking dang good. I really like how you were able to integrate the used cabinets. It's rare to see a shop with so much counter space. I'm a big fan of having plenty of work surface. I can stage multiple projects with room. I'll give some input on the island plywood top. I have one in my...

Thought I broke a belt running at 95 but didn't...

Mezz, I was thinking along the same line. @lofsfire , you didn't mention which track length. Not sure if it matters on that year? I believe they all ran extroverts. Track would need to be super loose for those to jump. It's possible, but the track would be flapping in the tunnel. I'd still...

    Catalyst ride reports

To the topic of Catalyst riding. I've been on the previous Cat sleds with 800 motors quite a bit. Most of them were 137 skid versions. I finally got a chance to do a shake down ride on two Catalyst sleds with 137 skids. They are now at about 550 miles each. Conditions have been pretty tough...
