UP next week

Thinking of a day trip ... trailering up to the UP next week Tuesday. Considering dropping near lake gogebic and riding north to lake in the clouds (never made that ride). Any input (trail and snow conditions, parking for truck / trailer, alternate day trips) would be GREATLY appreciated. Thanks!

I'm in the same boat but thinking of driving up Wednesday. Everything I'm seeing is early season marginal conditions and that is before the temps get into the 30s later this week. Starting to lean against going

I talked to a guy who lives in Marenesco, MI and he said everyone was up there riding the crap out of the trails. It didn’t sound good but that’s just what I heard. You might want to get some local info if you can, and it’s going to warm up next two weeks.

We decided not to go. Seemed like it was marginal last weekend, and that was when it was cold and there was snow elsewhere. Plus we all had some family stuff we were skipping out on.

A couple of the days we would have been up there, the low is in the 30's. I assume crazy traffic and there's no chance for a groom to hold.

Hopefully February is better, or maybe we'll be driving somewhere further...

For what it's worth Hoosier, Ontario does not look good either, until the middle of Feb., except for the very far Northern areas. This year totally sucks!

I saw the soo and wawa groomers are starting to work towards each other. They had pretty decent snow coverage in that area but not much north of wawa until you get up towards hornepayne. What a weird year for sure. We're looking at the 2nd half of Feb now. Might look at Quebec too.

Yeah, well, the temps are the real threat now. I'm glad I didn't go thru with buying a new sled. Good luck to ya, I see it looks like Maine or the Gasp'e

We trailered up to Mass City Saturday late afternoon and rode up to Houghton on 3 which was pretty beat up spent the night there. Sunday we decided to try the Keweenaw. So glad we did, It was great, rode all the way up to High Rock lookout, trails were awesome! perfectly white, flat and fast. Had something to eat at the Mariner, and headed back to Mass, All in all 225 miles. was so worth the trip. I have a place in St Germain so only a 2 hour drive back to the cabin. I was told they got 47" in 6 days. not sure how they will fair with the forecast but should last a little while I'd imagine.

We rode from Mass to Big bay yesterday. It was pretty good overall. Not much snow though except up by mt Arvin. The warm up will kill it fast. We were going to stay til Friday. I’m thinking we will leave tmoro. Plan for today is trailer up to Hancock and ride some loops. The BN was junk yesterday.

Trailered to White Pine Monday and road to Ontonagon and back trails were poor to ok to good. Some rocks coming up in spots. Spent the night and road 11-102 to Bergland then same back up and also to Lake of the Clouds.11-102 was fantastic getting a little thin is some spots down by Bergland and of course along the big lake was crap. Overall good 2days, was planning on heading to the Kew this morning but was told by friends up there that trails were going to crap already on Tuesday afternoon so decided not to go and don’t know when it will be good again.

It is not going to be good up there today. It never got below freezing last night. All said we didn’t have too bad of a day yesterday. But some of what we rode will be mud today. Some guys at the hotel rode out past Rousseau bar -was good in the morning and mud in the afternoon. It was groomed Tuesday night. I burned thru a new set of 8” carbides Tuesday. 270 miles. Almost lost a ski, it was close.

FWIW I follow the Keweenaw snowmobile club on IG and they stopped grooming yesterday due to weather and condition's.

`literally just got back 30 min ago....605 miles in 3 1/2 days in the U.P. rode the kee one day rest of time spent basing out of ``Big Bay... until yesterday was only ones staying where we were and let me tell you, except for the return ride out of the kee on tuesday which wasn't terrible ridden much worse, 95% of what we rode was AWESOME CONDITIONS especially east of L'anse was phenomenal to say the least. for allegedly " expect early season conditions" most of it was far from it.

You timed your visit right, conditions are on a slide right now & don't look to improve anytime soon. Glad to hear you got in a good run though. We'll have to see how this next timeline pans out. I have my reservations though, this is one bassakwards winter, thanks to El Nino.....
