Quick background, I've had my own snowmobile my entire life starting at 10 years old with a kickstart SnoScoot. Rode with my dad for years, he hung up his helmet about a decade ago mainly due to cost. 2 years ago I finally saved up enough to get a 2020 XRS 850 (I've wanted an XRS forever.) In 2 years I have under 200 miles on it with 0 miles this season. I had a second child the end of January, so chasing snow isn't really an option. With the high temps coming I don't think I'll get a single mile on this year.

I don't need the money, but do I take a big loss and sell it for $4,000 less than I bought it for or just sit on it for another year and see if the market changes? I know the market is going to be flooded with 2024's and 25's that haven't sold. Do I hold on, or sell it and get a cheap 600 that wouldn't physically pain me to sit in my garage not getting miles on?

"(I've wanted an XRS forever)" IMO.... YOU KEEP IT!!!, until the last couple years the most I would ride was 5 days in Michigan, that was it, but what people wouldn't or couldn't understand... it was worth it to me. I would keep it, why take the loss? you got something you always wanted, you know what you have, enjoy it when you can and try not to focus on the time you cant. IMO

Seems to me you question is should I sell or rent not buy another sled to not use. Lol. No one can answer this but you , your money ,your time, your costs of a good time.

$4k might be wishful thinking.
I'm leaning more towards keeping it because like Euphoric said It is worth it to me.
Some dealers are discounting leftover 2024 sleds extremely deep...I got $6k off MSRP 6 weeks ago on a new Cat...Your $4k guesstimate is probably off by a few thousand on a five year old sled...I would list it on craigslist/marketplace for what you think it's worth to you in the current market, and see what happens...
Example...

Agree with chunk06 and a few other posts. No dept, dont need the cash keep until you can ride it. Keep the dream alive! But if you decide to sell let me know more details first lol
