Potential State Record Sturgeon

Every year, one of the local resorts on the Rainy River holds a spring catch and release Sturgeon tournament. This year, one of the teams brought in what might be a MN state record. The beast had a verified length of 78 ¼”.





Spring Sturgeon fishing on the Rainy has exploded in recent years and may eventually be a bigger draw for fishermen than spring Walleye fishing. The Sturgeon are plentiful, big, and getting bigger every year. Five footers are not uncommon now.

WOW! That is one huge catch. That must have been a challenge to reel in much less to get onto the boat.
