The countdown is on!

Although many of us, including myself, are counting down days till we can get the sleds out again my countdown is now 172 days until both my wife and I call it quits. Jan 2 is the big day so lets hope we get a ton of snow this winter. Looking forward to some of that mid week riding people brag about! If snow around here is like the last two winters I'll probably make multiple trips out west chasing storms.
Still determining the next home base location but it's nice we have options and a place to live while we figure it out.

Congratulations Elf, you will love it and if you are like me you will stay pretty busy. But when retired you get to do what you want, not what someone tells you to (unless it’s your wife!) if I remember you moved up to your cabin In northern Minnesota. Enjoy!

Yes, we did move to the cabin last June but this is most likely not our final destination. Still trying to figure that spot out and that will determine if we keep this. Giving some thought to building near you in Shell Lake on the family farm that i grew up on, and being near my dad would be a big bonus. Looking at areas near the twin cities but the WI side, have a lot of friends in the Hudson/River Falls area. And just got back from another trip to Montana visiting our son. Saw a couple of new areas out there that I like but might be too remote for the wife. Who knows??
Luckily we are in good health, knock on wood, still relatively young, I'm 58 and my wife is 52, and we will have the ability to really do what we want so we aren't in a huge hurry to figure it out. At least I'm not:)

Congrats! The wife and I are kicking around the idea of hanging it up a little early, but the one big thing we haven't spent much time on is health insurance. Just curious how that will work out for you?

I have been retired now for almost 7yrs. In that time I have had both knees replaced and they are doing great. I play golf almost every weekday. Tee off at 7a.m. I am Also a very busy Grandpa. All 5 grandkids play sports. So go and watch them a lot. I played a lot of sports my whole life. I have been involved with my snowmobile club for almost fifty yrs. "Richmond Trailblazers". Look forward to this year, thinking about getting something newer to ride this year ,but have little faith in getting big snow. Also looking at doing some fall umpiring, Some of the umps I have seen at grandkids games are not that good. That is ages 11to 13.But as far has retirement goes ,I live by some songs the late Toby Keith sang, one is "I ain't has good has I once was" and the other is "Don't let the old man in" Great lyrics. The one line that I really get is, How old would you be if you Didn't know the day you were born. So with that I just have to say, try to live each day to the fullest and thank the man upstairs for watching out for you. Like an old friend always said, THINK SNOW!!

Great question. We can stay on Cobra for the first 18 months but that's kind of expensive. We've priced out insurance on MNCare and if the subsidies stay in effect that will be super cheap for us next year but after that when we can start withdrawing from my 401K it'll jump up quite a bit. Since its income based it really just depends on what you want your income to be. If we wanted to withdraw and live on $50K/yr its cheap, if we wanted to withdraw and live on $150K/yr its not as cheap anymore. Gonna be a long ways to 65 and Medicare, particularly for my wife.
