Took another short spin..hit the Hiawatha, went up to 8 W, jumped on 7s, and back home...really nice...I'd rate them a 6.5 out of 10..there are a few thin spots, but not bad..the freezing rain and rain from last week actually helped the trails..I wasn't hitting rocks, and I wasn't burning my slides off..they were flat, smooth and very rideable...the trail base ranges from 2 to 3 inches of packed snow/ice to 3 to 5 inches in spots. While there is more snow further north, there is also much heavier traffic..these trails are perfectly rideable as is...none the less 3 to 6 inches would put them a solid 9 out of 10..it's that good out there...don't listen to the "riding dirt/mud" trolls..I saw none of that (see pictures below).....the lakes though are an issue (don't listen to ice fishermen)..we checked nokomis last week..ice ranged from 3 to 4 inches in spots, to 8 plus in spots...it's variable, and the bad thing is that the rain did effect the lakes as it melted all the snow off the top...so it's super slick with little traction, and there's no lube, so you'll smoke your slides for sure....we definitely made more ice the last 3 days...but I would stay off the lakes until the clubs mark them....Ride em while you can people

WELP...it's 36 and sunny, and expecting more warm weather through Saturday, in fact north central Wisconsin will probably see rain/mixed with snow, but nothing major, and no accumulations......in fact there is ZERO measurable snow in the forecast for the next 7 to 10 days....so conditions will most likely deteriorate across the Northwoods by the weekend....what he have (or had) was a great base, but mother nature has not cooperated with more snow....the recent colder weather did tighten up a few of the lakes, and some are getting there ice wise....and might be marked before the new year (fingers crossed)...the problem is there is little to no snow, so NO lube, no traction (without studs).....so...in a nutshell some areas are better than others and I suspect that will stay that way for the weekend....it's thin...we need more snow.
