Finally...some snow coming

Things are starting to look up...we didn't take as big of a hit in the northwoods as I expected...it stayed cloudy with the warmer temps Xmas eve and Xmas day...we received freezing rain over night, roads are awful this morning..but this won't hurt the base, in fact it's going to help it (I will be checking it out later)...the club has started to mark nokomis, and the club has marked Oneida and Hancock lakes...average ice depth is 8 to 10 inches....we just have to get through some rain late Saturday into Sunday, before it changes over to all Snow...Nws is now saying 3 to 6 inches plus Sunday night into Monday as the temps plummet..they are also watching a potential area in north central wisconsin that could receive heavy snow (see graphic below)...this is just what we've been waiting for let's hope they are right..with this potential snow, trails could go from fair and marginal in spots to excellent by Tuesday...keep your fingers crossed!!!

Heard a report of construction on or near the RR Grade...Is it Open/passable ?
Unfortunately the construction is taking place in Lincoln County, which is currently closed...normally we open the hiawatha from Sara Park to Oneida County, so folks can get access to gasoline, food and lodging in town...I haven't gotten an update on the construction..
..I would imagine that could change with the possibility of measurable snow for Lincoln County tomorrow into Monday...Will know more by Tuesday /Wednesday for sure.

Btw...NWS has upgraded potential snow totals to 5 to 9 inches!!!...if we receive that amount or more these trails are going to be the best they've been in 3 years...fingers crossed...mother nature has a way of kicking us in the dick lately...so I'm tempering my enthusiasm...but forecast models look really impressive for this one...so far

10 plus inches in my yard this morning (and still snowing)...this is heavy wet, slushy stuff...GOOD STUFF for trails....Give the clubs a couple of days to get them all packed, and panned, and they should be really nice with the colder weather coming...finally some decent riding for the new year in northern Wisconsin....seeing anywhere from 9 to 14 inches of snow across the area.....and btw...NOKOMIS is marked

BTW lots of trees down...the clubs are working to get trails open and groomed....if you can help...get ahold of the clubs in the areas you plan to ride (look for their face book page)
