Unfortunately, in this particular situation, trailer brakes would not have helped him as the tow vehicle & tailer slid on an incline. The brake would not have stopped the trailers sideways slide. I do however agree with having braking on the trailer though.

Well, we got slapped here, real fine grainy snow, guessing around 5", difficult to say exactly as the winds were pretty nasty, drifted pretty heavily in areas. I agree, weight out the pros & cons, it was merely a suggestion to consider. Keep in mind, the policy itself gets the rate increase, not just the trailer rate. Replacing could be difficult from the availability stand-point, not to mention the cost to replace.

Only problem is he will get hit with an at-fault accident & his rates will increase. Perhaps a repair from the recommended shop is worth the out of pocket expense in the long run. Just a thought.
