    Another Helmet Question

I bought mine last year at last year’s prices out of necessity. Took a tumble and needed a replacement. At today’s price I absolutely would replace it. The Mod 2 was my first love and the Mod 3 not so much. I am snot rag free now! Only have two shell sizes and making removal padding to “size”...

    Ride Light

I am resurrecting this debate. Last week up in the UP there was no lack of groups out riding (Except the subzero days). We “expected” people at every corner. What scared me were seeing lots and lots of rental sleds with unit numbers from 1-100. Let that sink in. At one place they could launch...

    BRP Exome Radiant Helmet

When I looked for visors last year for the Oxygen there was only bronze and amber available. I like the idea of a blue.

    BRP Exome Radiant Helmet

Whitedust, I tend to start riding with the shield not snapped in place with a little gap. After riding awhile and my breathing slowed down I click the shield in. Clicking it in right away this last week (sub zero temps), the amber visor would fog. I also bought a “smoke” visor for sunny day...

    Comparing BRP Helmets

dfattack pretty much summed it up for me also, on grades or wide open areas. Cruising for me now is at 60 (trail permitting) with the occasional burst but after last year’s roll over (at 20) dialing it all back. Fyi, this last week I saw no lift on a couple of blips above 70. It might be...

    Comparing BRP Helmets

My windshield comes up to below my shoulders. With the Oxygen “aerodynamics” being a larger helmet (I had to go with the xl,2xl,3xl) I can feel my head lifting when motoring above 70. This was not the case with the Mod 2 or 3. If there is a strong cross wind I can feel it.

    Comparing BRP Helmets

Wore a Mod 2 for 13 years until no amount of duck tape (wrapped around straws) could seal the shield anymore. Got a great deal on a Mod 3 and used that for about 3 years until the nogging took a tumble, along with the sled last year. The Mod 3 had a tendency to have the vents ice up and restrict...

How "fast" is trail 14 - Big Bay to L'Anse?

5 up through Republic is a great ride with a couple twisty sections but generally a good clip. 14 out of Marquette (following it all the way, no extra curricular road short cuts) can slow you down in a fair amount of twist's. I run 4 stroke 137”s and find as I get older I get slower and slower...

Trail 5 south of Big Bay

Basically you will take 5 to 310 which goes slightly south and east to intersect 14 (East). Just make sure when you leave BB you take the 14 you want to Marquette or L’Anse. This pic was Friday.

Trail 5 south of Big Bay

This closure caused us to go back down 14 the way we came last Friday. Usually we go up 14 and back 5 but the added distance.

    To Scratch Or Not?

I checked my gps “tracks” only to find they never transferred to the new computer. We were up there Friday and thought I could get some updated ones but after a 12” snowfall on Thursday we didn’t want to miss any of the trails. CR510 is the single road that trail 14 crosses over in multiple...

    To Scratch Or Not?

I need to look at my gps tracks on my big boy computer. As I recall about 3/4 the way up 14 you run the road about a mile or so to hop back into woods on the “trail route”, instead, you go left (technically the road is CR 510) a short distance and pick up the trail crossing back over CR 510.

    To Scratch Or Not?

Our mid UP trips take us across logging roads and some plowed roads whether we want to or not, just glad they are there when needed. If I smell my buddies hyfax I lower them. Going to Big Bay from Marquette you can cutoff 5 miles of slow switchbacks by running the road just 1/2 mile further...

    Big Spring/Jack Pine

Euphoric1. Check with the casino outside Harvey and one in Christmas Mi as they may allow drop and ride. Buckhorn, Tanglewood worth a call as those owners are proactive businesses supporting snowmobilers. We base out on 16 mile lake and will put on 1k miles in 5-6 days. The location is perfect...

    Big Spring/Jack Pine

Happy to share gas stops and points of interest if I have a rough idea of your trek. We base out ”by” Buckhorn and make our week between Big Springs, Republic, Big Bay, Grand Marais, Seney, McMillian and Tfalls. My suggestion might be from L’Anse to Negaunee, fuel and get on 8. Take 8 through...

    Big Spring/Jack Pine

Use the Michigan DNR map for Alger for Eben and Schoolcraft for Palm Book State Park (aka Big Springs). Eben is a mile off of 8. By Chatham on some maps but in Eben. As for Big Springs/Jack Pine. You could consider basing out of Buckhorn (SW of Munising off of 94). Trail 7 south towards Big...

Early-mid January. Two weeks later end January early Feb. Two weeks later than end of Feb. Then, whatever March can offer. We base out of 16 Mile Lake (by Buckhorn).
