Boondock Inn Vintage Sled Event 2026

Thanks Mark. Yes, there were a LOT of nice sleds on the rides and at the show. Paul, from the Boondock Inn, along with help from Dan (DWZ), and a few other volunteers, work hard to make this event happen and their effort shows in how smoothly it runs. On the ride the day before the show, I...

    This is just a suggestion

The Discussion board is actually a separate website (johndeeforum.com) from the primary website (johndee.com) whereas the other features are contained within the primary website. You can actually access the Discussion board without going through the main website but when you click on the “enter”...

Boondock Inn Vintage Sled Event 2026

Thanks guys, people did like the Chaparral. Like Mezz said, there is just something about this sled that people finding appealing. And yes Mezz, there was no shortage of snow.:) Yeah, the 90’s and early 2000’s sleds are getting more popular every year and it doesn’t seem possible that these...

Boondock Inn Vintage Sled Event 2026

Day 3 was the vintage/classic show day at the Boondock Inn. I had planned to add a few photos and details here but I decided that the video I had been working on would do a better job of covering the day. If you’re not into old sleds, you probably wouldn’t find this video very interesting. But...

Boondock Inn Vintage Sled Event 2026

It's a link to more trail ride shots taken by the Wandering Michigan photographers. Cool stuff if you can find a friend that can log in and use the link. Good guesses but it’s really hard to pick out from this photo so here’s the story and it kind of ties into the Toolbox thread. At a...

Boondock Inn Vintage Sled Event 2026

Yep, that would have been the group. Had to be a flashback, riding into that not knowing what was going on. The weather for the trail ride on day 2 was spectacular, brilliant sunshine and almost tropical weather. The trail we took for most of the route had been groomed Thursday night and was...

    What's In Kelly's Toolbox?

You guys are good, REAL good. I'm saving these. Well, maybe except for the tampon. Think I'd rather light my underwear on fire, which, on a vintage sled could happen anyway. Ironically, there's a story related to this thread but I'll post that later in the Boondock thread.

Boondock Inn Vintage Sled Event 2026

Between my connection being down and the board being down, I have some catching up to do. Heading for home this morning but I’ll fire off a quick post and add more later. Day 1 was “Iron Butt” ride day, a 45 – 50 mile backcountry ride that while appropriately named, led through an amazing...

Boondock Inn Vintage Sled Event 2026

Sorry guys, I seem to have lost my internet connection on my laptop and me trying to post photos on my phone is an exercise is futility. I will report that it was a good day. Backcountry to the Mosquito for lunch and back. Guess it was between 40 and 50 miles, which is quite a bit when it comes...

Boondock Inn Vintage Sled Event 2026

Loaded up this evening for the 2026 Boondock Inn vintage sled event. At first glance, this shot looks almost identical to the one I took last year, but there is one important difference: There’s a different graduating class in the trailer this year. Look for them and the TX at the show on...

A Rare Sight in These Parts

I have a couple of challenging vintage riding days coming up later this week. So how do you prepare? Go for a vintage ride. This photo might not seem all that noteworthy but it represents just how far the Hamm’s Kawasaki has come. The sled was a mechanical mess when I got it, one problem after...

    Forecast?

Like others have said, forecasts seem to be all over the place now so you just pick the one that you want to see happen. There is no replacement for John's forecasts. For current conditions, I've found this to be the most accurate weather report out there - Scott's video feed :)

A Rare Sight in These Parts

Always liked the red version of the sled. One for sale on Marketplace right now. Here’s a Scorpion twist. A Massey Ferguson Cyclone and Storm built by Scorpion under contract with Massey Ferguson. The Storm was basically a Whip and the Cyclone started out life as a Brut, originally built by...

A Rare Sight in These Parts

Gary, it's a 76 Scorpion Whip with a 440 Cuyuna motor. Actually pretty fast, with that giant Walbro carb. It's my understanding that the Cuyuna motor company bought JLO and rebranded the engines as Cuyuna. I guess this was a tribute to the Cuyuna iron range, in which the town of Crosby, MN and...

A Rare Sight in These Parts

45 degrees be damned, vintage activity continues. Been putting various sleds through their paces to try to figure out which one to take as a trail blaster for the Boondock run. The Kawasaki has always been a favorite but it was far from ready, so I went to work on it this week. This is what I...
