    50 Years Ago, Monday

Lived in Mqt at the time. We heard that Ed was out there and we went down to the local park to check out the waves. Standing up above Superior by 20’-30’ on a rock jet-out we got hit by a wave, wool overcoat froze instantly and getting back the car was difficult.

    Kalkaska, MI

I live in TC (west side). Kalkaska or east side of TC can offer you out the door riding be it sleds, dual-sport motorcycles or ATVs. Abundance of walking and bicycle paths. Kalkaska to Fife Lake is rural, for now, with some public lands buffering development.

    Time for a New Helmet?

I don’t have the flow shield and will be getting one. With the current non-vented shield it takes some finesse. If your sled rca outlet cuts out while idling you need to open the shield while sitting. Some have had the rca controller go bad. Those are the only “cons” I can say. I really like...

Calumet and Hecla Mine and maybe John Dee.....

Found out this summer doing genealogy research on my ggrandfather, his brother consulted with C&H for the mine. He went on to help create Georgia Tech.. Fascinating reading his correspondence with the owner of C&H.

    fuel system cleaner

I have used Lucas diesel/gas additive for the last 15 years. I was a Techron guy but since Lucas can work on diesel and gas I buy it by the gallon. Used on the trucks diesels to lube the fuel pumps and never any issue with any of my diesels.

    Favorite section of trail

Let’s keep in touch. Our base is 3 1/2 miles from 8/7… Last year was the second year we never made it to BB. I rode solo from Mqt to BB every year from the late 70’s. Funny how back in the day the older sleds were slower with metal skis, ungroomed trails, and I still managed to slide off trail...

    Favorite section of trail

I rode 417 before they removed the rails in the 70’s. Wreaked my first sled on a coupler switch…

    Favorite section of trail

With logging, development and fires, it changes. Memorable sections were, Marquette to Gwinn (logging changed that 30 years ago). Two Heart, big fire 10 years ago cleared out the trees. Pine Stump towards GM, straight tree lined with undulating rollers. Christmas to Harvey when there is snow and...

    Four stroke oil change

Glad you got it done. On my 4’s, care must be taken to not strip threads. The drains plugs and “cover plate” have very low ft lbs tension.

track grips on trailer gate for loading

The caliber products are very good and I have used the ski glides on all previous trailers. For track traction I used hyfax chunks. You are correct about the 4 strokes. All my trailers have spin marks from prior to installing track grips. Current trailer is a low door so I have left it unmodified.

What Will You Be Riding This Year?

Sleds are finally back! Doo Dr found more damage in the newer sled and back order parts slowed the rebuild. 2019 Ski Doo 900T XRS.

    Time for a New Helmet?

Retired my 15 year old Doo Mod for a Mod 3. Used it one season and rolled sled with head taking a 10’ skid. Retired Mod 3 and bought an Oxygen. Basically if I take a hit to the nogging or see the foam is deteriorating it is time to change….

What Will You Be Riding This Year?

Brian, wow! Glad to hear on the recovery. We just did the same procedure for our dog’s eye. He made a quick recovery. You have me thinking of this as a fix for the wife’s knee (4 surgeries in 3 years, still in pain and swollen). We are waiting for Mayo to get an opening for her.
