    It’s not over!

Yup, head 5 miles north of Seney, cross the Fox River go up the grade and your in da Snowbelt - really a big difference between Town and few miles north. I'm praying for a March Blizzard, you just never know up there!

What trip(s) have you cancelled so far?

John called it this winter, and so did just about every other weather outlet in the country. I have this feeling as El Nino poops out later this summer next winter will be quite the opposite of this year, or at least some semblance of normalcy. As John would say, eventually things will balance...

What trip(s) have you cancelled so far?

It's unfortunate, but what John forecasted is unfolding for the midwest. He did say "Take Advantage of the few times it will be good", and plan accordingly. As I mentioned before, this year reminds me of 96-97, the last time El Nino was this strong. It's eerily similar. Maybe it's a sign to...

What trip(s) have you cancelled so far?

Hey everyone, was watching the Weather Channel this morning - Jim Cantore mentioned a possible blizzard for the upper midwest for next week. Hope Springs Eternal!

What trip(s) have you cancelled so far?

I lived in Big Bay, MI over the winter of 97, it was awful but at least there was some snow pack at this time, we had a storm over Halloween and then a few mild LES events that kept at least 6 inches on the ground by this time. This year is worse, in the 7 years owning my place up here (near...

    The Journal; Thoughts from Gracie

I am so sorry for this news, John was simply an amazing person. I too have been following him since he began this site decades ago, I remember reading about his adventures in Lake Linden and the two labs :) He was part of my journey to the UP also, his inspirations, stories and pictures fueled...

    FEB 2 Snow church

Mezz, absolutely dude! I've come to rely on these forecasts and now the SnowChurch video's for my time here in the winter - While the Weather Channel is talking about Texas, which I really don't care about it's great to watch John's Video's and read his forecasts for specifically for the Upper...

    FEB 2 Snow church

Gibb, thanks for pointing that out - it wasn't until I went to YouTube that could see that - for some reason on the JD site, it hasn't updated since the 31'st. Awesome! Cheers!

LES Event - Feb 2-3, Eastern UP (Lavender Corner)

About 10 inches of fresh light & fluffy LES yesterday and today so far. Starting to let up, not as well organized as yesterday but still spitting it out every 10 minutes or so.

Truly amazing how localized it can be up here! Yesterday, our cabin got maybe a dusting, but in town (Grand Marais) my wife said it was whiteout conditions on her trip to the Post Office. Places in the Keweenaw and the northern tips of the UP very much benefited from the west to east LES over...

About an inch overnight in the Munising to Grand Marais snowbelt, still flurrying but nothing to write home about - Dang I need to do the Heikii Lunta dance!!!

Cell service Northern WI and UP

Agree 100% - near the towns, it's OK - but soon as you get into the bush (say 5 miles out of a town) it craps out. I have Vz too. From Munising going east on M28, there's a dead zone from Shingleton to Seney, then it comes back for a few miles, then out again until Newberry, back out - then...

Liking the sounds of 5 to 10 day forecast!!

Sure don't want to Jinx it, but either scenario looks to bring cold air behind it, which ups our chances overall for some actual winter! I think the West / California have had ENOUGH Already! Anything to tip the scales and bring some semblance of balance here! GEEZ

Things to do while waiting for snow....

I sincerely doubt it will go anywhere, there's at least 2 foot (or about knee height) on the ground at that latitude, and because of the New Year's warm up, it's very cement. It's given me a heck of a time snow blowing the grounds here. A good base, at any rate. Any light snows we <might>...

Things to do while waiting for snow....

There's plenty of snow in the U.P. folks, even in the southern half. On my drive up over the weekend, trails were good all the way from St. Ignace seemingly.
