Well for the second time the motor has blown. First time motor let lose it had 5400 miles. Had it rebuilt along with crank, was told motor was like new, ride it like you stole it. 500 miles later same thing happened, motor let lose. First time it was on the 1st cylinder and the crank, 2nd time it was on the middle cylinder and the crank. I cant seem to catch a break it seems. Sled is in pretty good condition but I am on the fence about sinking bunch of money again into it. Second repair location is at a highly recommended person, but cost shows, over $2400. It would include a NEW crank, 1 new cylinder, 2 new pistons, all new rings, etc. Im looking for thoughts if its worth it. Please HELP!!

JMO but sinking 2400 into a 13 year old sled isn't something I'd do the sled isn't worth that much. In addition the root cause of the first failure wasn't found, I assume, so what happens after it's rebuilt again? Part it out and buy a newer model used sled, just my 2 cents.

Like jcams said not worth much Vipers over rated part it out and buy a used vector for under 3500 dollars get a 973 cc four stroke at 5000 the four stroke is just broke in.

With a Viper its more of an emotional choice than a financial one. It's not worth what you'd have to put into it to fix it. Unless you just swap motor with a parted out one, which would be my advice. Lots of good motors out there.

And jccams is right, the root cause wasn't found to begin with. I don't know exactly what blew up, but you've probably got an air leak somewhere leaning it out or something going on with the oil pump or both.

But for me nothing beats a Viper or SRX on a smooth trail. I keep my old Viper around and fix it up each year so I can ride it and get my fix when needed. I own 4S yamahas too and I love them, but something about that old Viper that keeps me dumping money into it.

Thanks for the opinions. I'm thinking that parting it out is was happening. First time parting sled out, any suggestions?

Yes, advertise the parts on TY.com, or see if Viper Lover or Viper King on there would buy it whole. Hope this doesn't break any johndee rules.

Parting out is a pain unless you do it for a living or something closely associated. Answering questions, sending pics, dealing with people who think they should get new parts for used price, shipping, having strangers around....etc. etc.

I'd personally sell it to someone who does that sort of thing or to someone who wanted a project. Figure out what your time is worth before you begin believing parting out is a smart move.
