02 edge x 600 reverse engagement problem

I have an 02 Polaris Edge X 600, with mechanical reverse, at times I cant get the reverse to engage, everything seams to be adjusted properly, when it doesnt engage it grinds, I have to put in forward position, move the sled forward and pull the reverse lever again, other times, it works perfectly, any ideas?? thanks

those use straight cut gears, so engagement can be a problem. Should pull the cover and inspect it, you may have some tooth damage.

This is not Polaris's best design. I have found engaging reverse just a split second before i stopped rolling forward is the best way to engage. It will take a couple of tries to get it but you will get the hang of it. The idea is the get the gears to line up as your sliding it into reverse.
