My friend and I both have 02 Vipers, mine is electric start-reverse his is the base model. He consistantly gets almost twice the mileage that I do. We ride identical (hard) and he's always 1/2 to 3/8 of a tank when I'm close to empty. Confirmed at pump when we fill up. I'm ready to pull both of our carbs off and check jetting main and pilots but also looking for other suggestions. My sled runs great and will pull his on a drag race but something has to be going on.--Please Help

Check your power valves. You may have some resistance there. They should be cleaned everything 3000 miles and this would effect your mileage for sure. We have found at our dealership that Yamalube seems to work the best on their powervalves and it's a cheaper oil as well. I would also check carb settings such as the float level and fuel mixture screw settings. Hope this info helps! Kip

Thanks I will give them a look over--I always run the 2S--can you tell me the stock pilot and main jet sizes just so I can check them (can't find my manual)Is carb cleaner ok to clean the power valves then lightly coat them with 2S before putting them back in ? If the carbs have never had anything done but cleaning should they be sync'd ?

The stock pilot jets are 45's. The float height should be 13.3 mm. Yes, it would not hurt to make sure they are in sync. Teamblue is also correct. Your clutches have a large effect on your fuel mileage as well. If they are out of alignment that will hurt, also if your weights, rollers, or your secondary ramps are wore. These worn items will cause your engine to work harder thus eating more fuel. I would use brake clean on your power valves and lightly buff them with a soft pad. I would not recommend a razor blade for the simple fact that you could nick a powervalve. Not that it wouldn't work but you have to be a bit more careful. Hope this info helps you ohning1971. Kip
