2003 rev 600.h.o with crank failure. Curious if anyone knows of a dependable & reputable tech near Lansing, Grand Rapids area that would be willing to dig into this.

I have used a bore scope and looked into each cylinder, both look great top end. After Sled shut down i let it cool for a night, next morning the sled would start but sounds horrible.

If you are interested or know of a good tech, please let me know!

Thanks All!

The connecting rod kit for that motor has been discontinued from Ski-Doo, crank (main) bearings are still available.

We have an outlet for remanufactured cranks for all makes. In many cases it's cheaper to buy remanufactured instead of rebuilding yours.

$504.99 exchange, free shipping.

Remanufactured cranks & engines the way to go or maybe just part the sled out & upgrade.

Has anyone done this? Also, what does the $504.99 include? Thanks for the help!

The crank bearings fail due to the isoflex grease that Bombardier puts in them. The grease eventually washes out, and the bearings will fail. I pull these motors out all the time and have made my own special tools that I can repack those areas of the crankcase without seperating the cases. In your event you will need a complete tear down and pull off the outer bearings and replace, then repack the bearings with isoflex grease.

I had a bud who owned an 03 ho 600. He had the typical ring issues and than oring problems due to a warped head or something. Anyways, his crankcase fill with coolant often and I am sure it helped to wash out the grease. Probably fuel also. I would imagine a hot motor will thin out the grease and if the seals are getting shot you'll loose the grease.

Just curious IYO how the grease washed out?

How many miles did that motor last? Over the years it has become evident that the beaver tails were probably not the best rev to own.

Mustard Bucket - sled has 6500 miles on it.

Whitedust- i thought about this but im not ready to part with her just yet! New stator, regulator, track, windshield delete, handlebar riser, hand gaurds and hand warmers installed last year.

xyooper - THANK YOU! I travel down to the 69 & 94 junction twice a week. This will be convenient!

I have done this very repair in my 700. It is the only way to go. I bought aftermarket pistons and gasket set with a reman crank and had a new motor for around $750 doing the labor myself. The shop where I bought my parts and had my cylinders honed pulled off my magneto/flywheel so I was set to do the work myself without a puller. Very easy to do, and they should be able to give you all the torque specs for the rebuild. But if I remember right they all where either 18 or 21 inch pounds, but I would double check that. You will also need a sealer for the crank as there is no gasket, but your parts supplier can help you there too!

Reason I gave upgrade option is I was in your shoes with blown 800 MXZ 2003ZX frozen crank also had flaking rings so did doo engine swap cost of $2,400. Dumbest thing I ever did costwise & I was married to the sled due to new engine & wanted to move on to new rider forward sleds but could not get my money back. Just was wrong thing for me in 20-20 hindsight.:)
