I bought a MINT 05'600HO (1700mi) last week. Brand new stud-boy studs. Problem-orig owner never installed tunnel protectors...studs slowly grooved cooler...one snowpile jump & splash...coolant spews. Has anyone changed-out one of these? It took maybe 30mins to tear down.... and the new one is ordered, but, what has me worried is only 4 or 6 are regular rivets that I can drill out. All the others look like part of the frame that were smashed down. Any ideas how to A) I guess cut the tops off & B) How to I installed the new one?

Thanks, Jeff

Ski doo used both buck type rivets and self piercing steel rivets. You can't drill the self piercing kind, they are too hard, you have to grind them off. The buck type will drill off. You can use regular blind rivets to re-install, just make sure they are tight in the hole and preferably the self locking type. Regular "pop" rivets will not do. If you want the buck type that are clean and tight, go visit your local airport and see if you can convince one of the mechanics to do it for you, they should have the proper tools. They would most likely have the good "cherry lock" type rivets if you want the blind type. They are all sized according to diam. and grip length (hole depth) so you will need that info to get the right rivets.

If you want to go cheap and don't care if it is as strong as it originally was, you could just use regular rivets, its up to you...
