06 500ss Electrical or computer Problem

Hello All,

My friend has an 05 or 06 Skidoo 500ss trail. At the end of the season last year the speedo and tack stopped working and the digital read out started saying SCALE. Anyone ever heard of this? He did trailer it without a cover last year and washed it with a power washer. Sled starts and runs fine and was stored inside all summer. The problem started again today. Any thoughts would be great.

I have the same machine and mine did that one before also. All the ski-doo gages made prior to 2008 will do this sometimes. Tell your friend to look in his owners manual. There is a page that will tell him how to reset or scale the speedo. He will have to push and hold the odometer button in for so many seconds then push it twice then do something else, but when hes finished it will go back to normal and work the right way again.

This happens sometimes when the button gets stuck down. I had one that stuck, and my wife pushed it to unstick it when going down the trail. Afterward her speedo would zero out a 40 mph(speed she re-set it at) I did the steps in the manual like mride460 said and all was fixed. Was kind of neat to see a 500SS go 120 mph though.

Sounds like a Relay is out, there is lots of info on Doo talk about relay problems.

Replace the relay that is zip tied to the frame right above the secondary clutch, this will fix the problem. Part can be bought at Napa for about $10. I had the same thing happen to my 500ss this fall.

The same darn thing happened to my '05 600SDI Renegade this weekend. What was the final outcome?

Dooski, it is a relay, if you have a NAPA close by, stop and get a AR201 realy, cost anywhere between 9-15 bucks. Grab an extra to throw in the backpack!

I had the same problem with a 500ss two years ago and all it was, was a relay. Then this last weekend we had the same thing happen to a 600sdi.

My 05 GSX 500ss is doing exactly what dooski and mride said. Problem is I don't have the owners manual and need the steps. Can someone post the insturctions please.

Note, I did get a new relay and that wasn't it. Thanks JD family.
