06' 600 HO Switchback Gas Leak

After tearing things apart to fix my broken recoil rope and replace the coolant overflow tube, I discovered I have a gas leak. Well, already suspected due to a spot under snowmobile and gas smell.

I started checking all the fuel lines to no avail, pulled the airbox and think the leak is at the bottom of the clutch side carb. I am a novice and have no clue how to diagnose what is causing this. I feel the bottom side of the carb and its wet with gas. But there is also some gas a little higher up on the clutch side of the carb. I could tell because it was clean. There is an allen screw that actually had gas in the hole where the wrench would go. Can anybody help me diagnose what to do next? The fuel line at the bottom of the carb is just a water sediment trap and wouldn't leak fuel correct?

At this point maybe it needs to go to a dealer. Any help is appreciated.

I have had the water sediment line chafe through on my 1998 Polaris XCR and yes it will leak fuel out of there. Water is heaver than gas so the tubes are there to let the water fall to the botton of the rubber hose. If there is no water then the tube is full of fuel. Your best bet is to pull both carbs off and clean them and install new gaskets. Also inspect the water sediment lines and the fuel supply lines for any damage and replace them if they have any signs of damage.

You may have a bad read valve. You can tell quickly by pulling the crankcase drain plug located at the base of the case. Remove and see how much fuel drains. If it’s a lot you may need to check the reeds.

What are you talking about? He may have a bad needle and seat which controls fuel flow into the carb bowl. Reeds control air flow back into the carbs.

Pulled the airbox, pulled carbs, tapped the carbs where the float is hoping it is just stuck. I also examined and emptied the sediment tubes. I have re-assembled. Hopefully all is good. Still working on fixing my other issues, so i'll find out after I complete those issues. Thanks

Well if you did not find a positive cause of the fuel leak it will return. I would pull the carbs back off and and pull them apart and clean them. It's not that hard to do. You don't want a trail side barbeque. What other issues are you haveing? I have a 2007 Switchback so I might be able to help. Check your private messages.

Picked up the float bowl gasket from A+ today. Hopefully work on it tomorrow. Doing the Valentines thing with my GF tonight! thanks again for the advise. Maybe we can ride together sometime.
