06 600 sdi over heat over 70 mph

At 70 MPH I get a overheat light and a check engine light.
It goes into limp in and can't go over 20 MPH
I brought it to a dealer and he pulled the codes and came up with a p1549
Exhaust temp too high. It says too lean, fuel filter, poor fuel quailty or dirty fuel filter.
I replaced the fuel filter
Anyone have any other ideas
thanks for you help

Possibly a bad exhaust temp sensor, giving a false reading? Which fuel filter did you replace -- the one in the tank, or the inline filter on the left side above the secondary (I'm guessing the latter, since it's the easiest to do).

How does it run, before going into limp mode? You should be able to tell from your plugs if it's running too lean.

I have a feeling that's what it is but I am trying to explore other options because its two hundred dollars for the sensor. I did change the secondary filter. I will be test driving in a couple of hours to see if it helps. Thanks for your help.

I think there's a way to check the EGT sensor, but I'm not sure what it is. I've seen it discussed on DooTalk, you might want to try there.

mine did that so i traded it in to the polaris dealer in madison (for a doo 800) after my up north dealer told me the cylinders were on there way out. just trade once the snows gone :D

this is probly the reflash for 06 sdi. something to try is on them long staights where this is occuring change the speed u are running. dropping a couple mph should keep this from happening . varying the throttle with the rpm s keeps the lean spot away.

Well I took it for a quick 200 mile trip around kalkaska and everything I tried didn't work so I
need to know how to check the exhaust temp sensor
Does anyone know what the ohms value would be
And thanks for all your help

Quoted from DooTalk:

"There have been a number of posts recently about flashing "check engine" light (CEL). In many cases it does end up being the EGTS. It's easy enough to check the sensor, there is a table of resistance vs temperature values in the service manual. If you unplug the EGTS and measure the resistance OF THE SENSOR with an ohm/multi-meter you should get around 200 ohms depending on how cold it is. If it reads open circuit then your EGTS is toast. If you replace with a functional EGTS and it was the only cause for the CEL, the light will go off on it's own thankfully no need for the dealer to reset it."

It may have been old Fuel in the Tank screwing up the Computer. With this Ethanol breaking down over the Summer weird stuff is happening to these Sleds when they are taken out of storage.

Everyone should pump Gas out in the Spring and refill with fresh Gas now.

Did u trim your snowflap? Alot of guys will trim 2" off so you don't run it over, but it will cause u to overheat in low snow conditions.

as for the snow flap i did not cut it, it is full leangth
i am going to try to test the egt

If you are running very lean...the plugs when pulled should be very light or white.

Also if this only happens when the sled is running fast...I would suspect a burp in the coolant system...bubble in the line. It could also be a bad water pump...

Have you pulled the rad cover when it is supposed to be getting hot? If yes, was it boiling hot, or just hot?

Whole point of cel is to keep you from frying the engine. The engine code might be expecting lean burn conditions, because the engine is hot...when there could be other issues going on here to trick it into thinking lean burn.

If the pickup in the tank is plugged or you have stuff in there that keeps plugging it...this will also cause lack of fuel delivery...so it is one of those start with the fuel lines, to be sure they are not cracked sucking air, plugged intermittenly, or moving on to why the engine is not getting enough coolant flow at higher speeds.

This same thing happened to my 06 when it was new. Same problem, let it sit and it would start up and run fine then do it again. Ski-Doo had a service bulletin out on it in 06 and they had to reset the computer and replace the censor. Have not had a problem since.

the coolant was hot not boiling, the coolant gauge is in the normal range
i am afraid i am going to need a sensor, all fuel lines are clear
my girlfriend has an 04 gsx 600 sdi and i think i am going to put the sensor from
hers in my sled a give it a try but i know what is coming SENSOR.
THANK YOU so much for all the help
