06 MXZX 800 H.O no spark

Took my sled out the other day and I got stuck, so i shut it down with the kill switch. Then a minute later went to start it and no go. Figured out i have no spark, so i thought maybe the kill switch was faulty so i unpluged the wiring harness on the handle bars and then pulled it over and still no spark. So im wondering where to look next, any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

not sure but i think it might be the (sdi) box not 100% whats its called it sends the signal from the engine timing to the box

Thank you very much for the replys. Is there a way to check the stator to see if thats the problem? And if anyone else has a idea if something else that could cotribute to this please let me know. thanks

The problem could still be the kill switch. With the harness unplugged the kill witch circuit will not be complete unless you jumper over the terminals. Good Luck.

skidude67 - If he disconnected the wire harness for the right side of the bars (kill switch, thumb/handwarmer) the sled will run and the right hand warmer will be off. When you press the kill switch it closes the connection to ground and kill the motor.

When the REV kill switch fails its usually keeps the connection open so the sled still runs. As the switch wears the plastic gets into the contacts and wont allow the sled to turn off. Mine has this problem occasionally. I have to hold the button down so it turns off. To fix it you can take the switch apart and clean the contacts.

trailshredder - The 05+ REV has a high output 360watt stator. I have not heard of many issues with them? Some older doo models had stator issues such as the late 90s 800 tripples.

renegade_x - Hook everything back up again and make sure you are grounding the spark plug to one of the engine head bolts. It wont spark if you hold it on the aluminum head.

Possible causes of no spark would be:
MPEM, DESS Post, ground issue / exposed wire shorting out, Stator, kill switch

It sounds like you were riding off trail when it stopped working?
The MPEM (computer) is mounted directly under the headlight. Snow hits the headlight, melts and water drips directly into the exposed wire harness. My guess is this is where the problem is. You could inspect the harness connection on the MPEM for corrosion. The risk with this is if the pins are corroded it may be difficult to remove the connector and they could break off inside the MPEM. There is a tech bulletin to add dielectric grease to the pins. 2007 Doo added a rubber boot to the harness connector to correct this problem.

I think Gig has got it with the MPEM...but I would check the main ground on the sled also. The later sleds had a problem with the grounds coming loose but worth checking on this one also. Since it was running I would say it is something pretty simple here.

Gig- Maybe you haven't heard of any late model Doo's having stator problems. I own a repair shop and we have done two of them in the past two weeks. An 800 and a 700 gade I believe they were 05 and 06.( If memory serves me correct anyways) These weren't the first ones we have ever had with this problem. Granted we always check the simple stuff first, but it is becoming apperant to us that we are seeing failure in the stators, so I am leaning towards telling my mechanics to skip the bull and check the OHMS on the stators first.

I finally got a chance to look at my sled today, i forgot to tell ya's that it has electric start, which i dont know why this would matter because its carburated and i dont think the non e-start models have batteries in them. (Correct me if im wrong) But anyways my battery is shot and it was stone dead. So i put a charger on it and i figured i would try to start it for the heck of it, and i pulled it over and it fired right up. So im going to go buy a new battery for it tomorrow and that should fix the problem. Also wanted to thank the guys for the trouble shooting tips.
