07 iq starter trouble

I have a 07 600cfi cleanfire lx

the starter does not engage (makes a nasty noise) the bracket that holds the starter drive seems loose , is that normal, is it a part of the exhaust bracket?
Might it be a solenoid not engaging the drive? Thanks

If the bracket is loose, that is more then likely the problem. I had mine off last year and if I remember correctly, you may have to pull the exhaust manifold to get at it. I believe the bracket has 2 bolts holding it onto the block and they are not attached to the exhaust manifold. There are several exhaust bolts that are tricky to get at also. On other thing, make sure your battery is charged, a bad or low battery has the same symptoms.
