I am not really buying that is 100 inches of snow. Maybe 100 cm (about 39 inches) of snowfall, add some wind and that would account for the drifting. Think about it, 100 inches is over 8 feet, I don't think those pics look like 8 feet of snowfall.
Look up some pictures from last month in Kitimat BC, they got 100cm in 24 hours at sea level.
Also, I don't know much about Italian snow norms, but if you want to really want to find impressive snowfall numbers look at coastal mountain ranges from northern california to alaska. They may get rain at lower elevations but when cold air meets a pineapple express, lookout! I work with someone who lived in Valdez AK for a few years, I guess people leave their snow-blowers on the roof all year long.
