Made a college level try out of Muni on Friday. Please don't take this as a bash, as I know this is early riding and during the holidays, but want to give an accurate rating of the trails for others.
Rode out of Muni with an early start. Headed north east towards Grand Marais. Outside of Muni was bad to start. Once you hit Kingston Plains, the trails were a 10/10. We were the 1st tracks on the ribbon and were able to haul. Headed east from there along the lake. We hit the 8 and 9 intersection and the trails went from great to Poor in a hurry. Our plan was to grab fuel/food at Tehquamenon Falls. I believe it is UP45 - and anything east of northwestern road was garbage. West of there was a 10/10. Once we headed back toward pine stump the trails went from great to ok and west of there to poor. Took a few fireroads to get out of the rough stuff. The last 30 miles were 2-3' moguls - just brutal.
So - there are some good - for the clubs that are able to get out, and groom often. But I know some areas have swamp/water issues and needed some cold weather before they could work the trails. Other areas have groomers down which didn't help the trails. Plenty of snow - most areas 2-3' on the ground. All lake effect, so not a lot of moisture to work with.
255 miles. 100 or so good to excellent. 50 or so okay. 100 poor to darn right bad.
Can only get better from here. Again - not a bash - understand what the clubs might be dealing with. Just calling what I rode. Be safe an enjoy.
