Anyone willing to share experience on an early 70's Ski Doo Elan restoration project would be appreciated. Getting started on my first! Will need a few parts (carb was removed) but am not afraid to strip it down to the bone. Mainly looking for leads in the parts area and what not to Doo advise. Thanks

This site is kind of goofy to navigate, but tons of good info here:

You've probably already found this one, but if not lots of info here as well :

If your Tillotson carb is missing, its probably a good thing. Unless your looking for an accurate/original restoration, the best thing you can do is hang a Mikuni on it. The Tillotsons work just fine but they can be a real headache also. The diaphragm carbs don't appreciate the crap we are passing off as gas these days, and they can be finicky to tune. You'll have to rebuild it pretty much yearly, and quality rebuild kits are getting harder to come by. Mikuni just makes life simpler.

Oh, and we need pictures!!!:D

Nice little sled to restore in my opinion. Lots of parts common with other models. Spend enough time on Vintage Sleds and you will start to develop contacts for parts.

Art's Snowmobile Salvage up in Cornell, WI has a lot of stuff and isn't too far away from you. I think they also may ship if need be.

If you're interested top-notch reproduction stuff, there is a guy named Ron "Goose" Thomsen that deals exclusively in vintage Ski-Doo reproduction stuff (seats, hoods, etc.), including the Elan. You can find him on the web.
