Does anyone know the size of the rivits that hold on the hyfax, there are 56 and it seems to 5/32 not sure, I just would like to know the correct size. I assume there steel as well.
This got me interested, I couldn't find anything.... I do remember the cleet rivets used to kill us when we were teenagers. I would try to improvise and install flat-heads with countersinking the hyfax in a couple of places. Before I would give 56 rivets a re-install.
Sorry, wish I could be of more help.
The hyfax is pre drilled and has counter sunk holes already drilled, I've been to menards, homedepot, fleet farm and Ace, no body carries steel rivits only alum.
They are 5/16" rivets. You need to use a "grip range" of at least 3/8".
One problem you may run into is the "changable" nose on most rivet guns won't fit into the counter sink on the plastic slides. If you can't get up against the rivet and push with the nose of the rivet gun when you pop it it won't be seated right.
Install the rivet in the hole all the way in and seated. Make a small sleeve with a hole in the center and slide it over the rivet and into the counter sink on the plastic slide. Don't make it any longer than you need or the rivet gun won't grip the rivet. You can, with the sleeve, push against the sleeve with the nose of the rivet gun which will push on the rivet and ensure the rivet is seated properly.
Keep the sleeve you make, you may need again.
Hope this helps.

The amount of rivets that Cat used on these slides was way overkill so you can use any kind of rivet (aluminum or steel) and it will still be heavy on the overkill.
5/16 seems small, but if thats what cat says then I'll get those, I was wondering how they got those in, good idea on the tube idea, the book says there 56 and your right it seems like a lot.
