1998 XLT spitting out anti freeze

My 1998 xlt spits out antifreeze out of the little plastic cap everytime I run it for the first time after sitting for a while. The container is full to the top. After i let it sit for about 30min an run it again for another hour or so, the level will sit normal and not spit out the top. Then after after sittting again, it will spit out a ton of antifreeze and be at the maximum leve. Could it be a head gasket? so the basic problem is an overflow of antifreeze.

Thanks for your answers.

I had an XLT years ago I seem to recall a problem with air bubbles. I cannot remember the procedure to get them out but they could cause slight overflow problem.

X2...doesn't sound like a head gasket issue. Might possibly have too much anti freeze in it or like said above...air in the system.

Check your "breather" hose the one that comes from water pump, small like a fuel line, there is 1 or 2 check valves in this line close to the tank. Sometimes these will "foul" up & not work properly. Otherwise jack the front end higher than the rear end & let idle with rad cap off for 4-5 minutes to clear any trapped air in system. Or head gasket it's one of the three, for sure!!! Post back & let us know the "fix":D
