Do you need a different clutch puller for the Liberty motors than the Fuji motors?

I've figured out that you need to reverse thread the bolt out, but what size puller do you need?

Yes the Liberty motors use a different puller than the Fuji. Look in part catalog or look online and buy one. I used to have one for a 99 XC500 but I sold it.

After playing with it a bit, I'm guessing a proper length 1/4" rod that would go into the hole on the end of the crank, and a bolt other than the primary bolt to thread into that first set of threads and push against the crank, should do it.

Thoughts? (My father will have these items, so free if it works)

It might work if you can keep the bolt and rod aligned. It takes quite a bit of torque to get it to pop off especially if the clutch has not been off lately. Just don't mess up the threads in the clutch or you will be in mess. Good luck!

Yeah, it would have to be a perfect fit on the bolt and rod to align it properly and keep it aligned at it gets tightened.
