i prefer the shock body on top. This results in less unsprung weight at the ski so the shock can react quicker. Also, with many aluminum body shocks the Spring is the heavier part of the shock, so this also results in a lower center of gravity. now if your using an air shock this may not be the case. One down side is it does expose the shock shaft to ice chips and stones, so nicks and scratches on the shafts are more common. you also need to check with the shock manufacturer to be sure the shock is designed to be mounted in either direction, some are not.
