Wow. This is quite a bit all over. I will say, it appeared the forecast on this one was off, but on the high side for a change. Great to see. Sleds should be spread out throughout the whole state for a change.

Bobt...Not sure on the accuracy of the Spread Eagle total of 15", unless I'm not reading that correctly. Definitely a foot but never saw 15" at my place. in fact, looks like it settled 3" since the snow finished.

I hear ya, not sure how the "Coop" dudes measure it.

I did talk to someone who lives near "Spuds" on Old 69 and he said the same as you,,,,12" -13" or so.

It was a good one either way!

Someone can correct me if I'm wrong, but official snow totals are measured an inch at a time, 1 inch falls on a surface, it is recorded and cleared so on and so forth until the event ends. So a 15" official snow fall could be 11" on the ground shortly after a snow event due to compaction of the snow on the bottom from the weight of the snow on top.

Make ALOT of sense and explains things!

JD, chime in!

The officially recognized way is that an observer can measure no more than once every 6 hours. So the maximum amount of measurements in a 24 hour period can only be 4. Each time the snow is measured, the surface it was measured on is suppose to be cleared. The sum of the measurements (be it 1, 2, 3 or 4) in that 24 hour period is the total for the 24 hour period.

There is no set time to have to take measurements during the day/night, just that there can be no measurements taken in a time period of less than 6 hours.

All snow settles. Some a lot more than others (lake effect for example), so the 6 hour rule does force some settling to occur in many cases.
