2 Place Enclosed Trailer Freezes Shut

I have a 2 place R&R trailer. My problem is that when it gets cold the damn thing always freezes shut. Is there any tricks for preventing this?
When I'm home I just leave it slightly propped open.

If there is a "rubber gasket" around the opening, I usually wipe it down with WD-40. That dries the moisture so it doesn't freeze. WD-40 is actually the 40th chemical combination for Water Dry that someone used when inventing it. Might work for you.

My brother in-law use to have the same trailer and had the same issues with his. He use to carry a small butane torch in the truck and would just heat it up with the torch for a second if it was frozen shut.

Don't try forcing it, he did that the first few times and his lift handles paid the price

I have a Snowlite which the cut down version of an R&R and I had the same problem. This year I just replaced the rubber seal with a new one from Home Depot. I bought a garage door seal that has a flap on one side which hangs over the rear of the deck, which so far seams to help. I was only about $6.

ME too!!

I have the same trailer, same problem.

I spray it down with liquid wrench or WD40 after every trip(to and from), pain in the but however it keeps it from freezing closed, I also carry a protable torch just in case.

Thanks for the help. I'm going to start by replacing the rubber seal since I trashed the old one. Then lube the S#*t out of it

We have to use de-icing spray on the R&R trailer of my buddies because it freezes shut too. I think the lithium grease is a good idea and should work.

I added a stainless steel flat iron piece to the back so it covers the joint between the cover and floor. It has a lip bent on it to act as a drip edge. This is on the rear. On the front, I bolted an angle iron to the cap about 4 inches up from the floor. To that, I attached a strip of belting that rubs on the exposed floor. Mine is a drive off so I have a vee in the front. If yours is a tilt, you would only need the 'drip edge' on both ends

Is this just an R&R trailer issue? my R&R 12' clamshell does this to. It has a drip edge on the sides. mainly freezes across the back. How long does the grease, WD-40, lard, etc. last? I am concerned about the mess of those products also.

Freezing

I use silicone spray. It is not as messy and will not become rancid as lard might when it starts to warm up. I spray it in a rag and wipe the rubber seal and then also rub the metal the seal comes in contact with.

Been using Vasoline on my rubber strips for years. Makes it very easy to open.

I guess if I don't use to much it will be minimal mess. The rubber seal on the lid sets part on the wood and part on aluminum across the back. Just seems that with all the space age products out there that this could be of a better design.
