My buddy has a 2000 AC ZL 500 EFI that he is having a problem with getting the rpms over 6000. I cuts out, bogs and stutters at 6000 rpm. It idles fine and runs great to 6000 rpm. Last year I was riding it and the rewind took a crap then took out the stator. He put a new one in and it was fine at first then this started at the end of the year last year.

He has done the following with no luck:
Switched both clutches with known good working clutches, same problem.
Checked injectors, psi good.
Checked compression in cylinders, both 115 psi.
No codes.
Fuses ok
Injectors working properly.
All voltage is good.
belt good

We are thinking throttle position sensor????
Also checking all wires and fuel lines.

Never had one so frusterating. Let me know your thoughts.

Thanks,
Graig

Any ideas please

Sorry I can't help, but will reinforce a similar problem with my sons 2000 EFI 600 ZR. He bought it used from an out of stater and it never has run well. It's now dead in the garage. He's had it to two dealers and they can't figure it out. I won't name names of the dealers. He's thinking it might be a stator problem, but we're not sure. When it was running it would go into limp mode and increases oil usage significantly and decrease throttle.

Good luck and I'll be tracking any help you get here.

I think you kind of answered your own question. You have checked everything you can check and the sled has had stator problems before. For my money it is the stator again. Do not get a rewound stator. Get a new OEM one.

Power valves open at about that rpm, make sure they are ok. It almost sounds like the CDI mapping is not advancing properly, If you can find one, swap it with a known good one, you really can't test a CDI. Good luck.

Had a similar problem a few years back on a 2005 ZL. Found a broken cable on one of the power valves. Don't know if yours has the power valves on it, but if so, you might take a look there.
