Just fishing for info. Have a friend that wanted me to go thru his carbs, he offered to pay me but that was before I started another job. I told him that " IF " he brought them over and wanted to learn what little I know that I would show him how to do it. My question is .... are they a pain ? Similar to an old T-cat ? Just curious, wanted to know in advance how beat up my hands were going to be. Any tips Yami specific ? ie: 18" screwdriver from the top at 22 degrees 30 minutes & 10 seconds .... for middle carb ..... LOL

The sleds are 2001 700 SRX & 2002 600 SXR ? does that sound right ? Either way they are both triples. He is a friend of friend , wode with him a few times, I get the feeling that he is trying to save himself the $89 an hour dealer shop charge andf pretending to offer me the job. Like he is helping me out ???? Thus the " I will teach you for nothing ".
Born in the morning ? Yes I am.... Yesterday morning ? I think not !

Let him go to a Yami dealer. If you get him going and something bad happens once he starts riding he will blame you and you will never hear the end of it. Been there done that. Cleaned a guy's carbs on an older sled and once he started riding he blew a chain and took out the chaincase. Somehow this got to be my fault. Don't go there.

They are easy. They are all mounted together as a rack so all three come off together. Don't split them apart for cleaning. Pull the airbox and the carbs are pretty much in the open. Make sure to pinch the coolant lines so you don't make a mess. One on each end of the carb rack. I turn them upside down in my vise with a rag in the jaws. Tap the bowl screws with a punch to help break them loose, they are soft and the phillips slots round easy. Go to the hardware and get some metric cap heads as replacements. Pilot jets are what plug the most and the holes are tiny. If it has sat a while it is a good idea to clear the fuel lines and the fuel pump or you may push junk right back into your clean carbs. Also make sure to count the turns from closed for the pilot screws unless you have a manual.

you are 100 % correct easy to do, and most likely it is the pilot jets that need to be cleaned. I do it every year on three of them. I guess i'm down to two now.

Thanks for the coolant line tip. I havent worked on too many Yami's but I do recall the coolant lines. They were doing that back in the 80's ? We will see if he wants to learn.... sad to say but some people are looking for the cheap & easy way. If he is interested in learning than that speaks for itself.
