Doing some research for a buddy looking at buying one. Wondering if there is any known problems with this sled?? The last polaris I owned was a 01 pro x 600 and had drive shaft and chaincase problems. Just wondering how the 800 is or if its a good solid machine?? Sled has 5000 miles on it with 1000 on fresh top end re build. Any info would be great. He is just looking for a sled to do some local riding when there is snow and found this for a good price. Thanks for any info u guys can give
Crank shaft issues with the POLARIS 800's, especially the 2001's
There are 4 800 EDGE's in our group, 2001-2002.
Only one crank failure on the 2002 at 7400+ miles
Remove the primary clutch and place a dial indicator onto the crank snout.
.0025" is the absolute most I would want to see. Preferably less.
If it's good, then set the belt to sheave clearance on the primary(reduces the "slamming effect" onto the crank upon engagement) and send it out for balancing (approx $35.00) goes a long way towards crank longevity.
I have a TECH TIPS THREAD for 800 EDGE's that I'll move up to the top for you
