2005 Fusion 900

So yesterday with a little assitance of a small squirt of starter fluid I got the sled fired up for the 1st time since it came out of storage, it did not sound the greatest and was struggling to idle and when I would give it throttle it would really spit and sputter and eventually shut down. Today it will not idle at all and when it is idling at a very low rpm and I give it throttle to try and boost the rpms it immediately shuts down. With the blowing snow I finally just gave up on it and am hoping someone can tell me what to do next.. could it be the carbs that are in need of a good cleaning? if so how difficult is it to pull them off and clean them without ruining something, I have never done this myself before.. When the sleds went into storage the gas was drained from the tank but not the lines so I that is why I am thinking the carbs could be gummed up, if this is the case I will pull it into the warm garage and that will be my project for tonight.. any thoughts are greatly appreciated. Once again this is a 2005 Polaris Fusion 900 with a rebuilt top end with very low miles that was running great before it went to storage last spring after a very low mileage year due to lack of snow.

Didn't you run gas out of carbs? Did you spray starter fluid direct in cylinders if not try that with fresh gas & lots of seafoam in tank. Seafoam can dissolve the gunk so put on stand rev & blow crap clear. Next pull carb bowels & clean try agian. No luck pull carbs & clean jets with carb cleaner not difficult to do 1ea. 6pak job while listening to tunes.:)

I did spray the starter fluid straight into 1 of the cylinders followed by 2 fresh plugs.. the sled is fuel injected and I only put a small amount of fresh gas in it to try and get it fired, I read on another post that a guy couldn't get his fuel injected sled fired at all because it was not full of gas and the pump wasn't pulling gas through.. could this be the case with mine even tho it did briefly start? Could the sled starting briefly be due to the starter fluid and filling it with fresh gas will allow it to fire and run strong or no?

if the sled is fuel injected, then you do not have carbs.from your description,it sounds fuel related. first I would put a fuel pressure gauge on it, if I remember correctly the spec is approx 57 psi.

also,if your running ethynol at all, then there's a good chance your fuel pump is locked up. it's in the tank, and when you pull it out take a good look at the lines=I have seen them totally fall apart in the tank. get the pump away from fuel and see if you can get it to run with batt voltage. one trick that works sometimes is to try running it backwards for a second or two. and it can still be no good even if it runs on bench=it may not build enough pressure.

I do not run ethanol ever since I toasted a motor because of the garbage.. And when I am forced to run ethanol I put the treatment in with the fuel.. Would sea foam be a good option before I pull out the fuel pump?? What is the easiest way to get the fuel pump out? Thanks!

I know Poo had problems with 900 & that must have been cleanfire injection forgot about that. You have to have fuel pump & injectors primed or won't start for sure. Put at least 5 gallons of premium straight gas in tank if you have a supplier in town & make sure your battery is charged up. Turn key & you should hear electric fuel pump & that will pressurize injectors give it a second then turn key further to start & keep starter turning for about 45 seconds to move gas into pump & injectors. Wait 2 minutes & try again. If does not start & plugs are wet you are flooded which is a good thing you are getting fuel. If plugs are dry injectors are not getting gas from fuel pump becasue you lost prime with bone dry tank you drained. If pump won't take new fuel from tank call your dealer for help to prime pump. Let us know if any of this works.

Get some StarTron. The stuff will work fast. Let pour it in and let is sit over night. It will eat up the bad gas and clear up any gas related issues. You can get it from walmart, or just about any auto parts store. It works good.

it would be best if you checked fuel pressure 1st.even if you had crap fuel it would build pressure.but to pull pump you need to get the plastic shroud off over the tank. then disconnect lines with disconnect tool, unplug harness, then unscrew large roung plastic nut on top off tank. then pull it from tank=that assembly is probably 3' long if I remember

Thanks for all the help guys! Finally got it running, got a few more gallons of gas I'm there to build some pressure and some more of the startron which I use whenever I have to burn ethanol in order to clean up the gas that was still in there. Thanks again!
