There is an adjustment turn buckle between the two linkages. This will probably do the job. It is very sensitive, my 03 would pop out of reverse and grind, I adjusted according to Yamaha spec, and it was in reverse with the shifter in either position. A quarter turn later and it was all good. I found the procedure on totally Yamaha. Good luck.
