Looking for some input from Duramax owners, what is the most effective way to get more power and improve fuel economy on this engine? I have heard that changing out the air intake and installing a larger diameter exhaust makes a nice improvement, is this true? If this is the case what brands work best and are still safe for the engine? Thanks.

Uncle and cousin both have them, you are correct, change intake and exhaust. They put 4 inch from the turbo to the tailpipe with K&N mass air intakes. They both have them chipped but can't remember what brand. Turning 550 horse out of them.

If you want fuel econ then go with the edge chip in my opinion. If you are get 18 now you can get up to 24mpg in econ mode and a soft foot. I have problems with the soft foot myself...

Don't know about the exhaust, but I know it was much money for me. I'd rather put it into a sled.

This is one of the best intakes for Duramax, friends truck. He says the truck runs a lot better since he installed this and also his mileage improved. I helped him install this and the Injen is very high quality system. The shinny tube is solid aluminum. It an expensive system but IMO worth it.

Do you happen to know where your friend ordered that unit from and by chance the cost? Thanks for the info. looking at options to get more performance safely and reasonably.

dragon,

He got it thru AMSOIL. They use a special AMSOIL (dry) nano-fiber air filter.

I come up with model PF7075P List $676.00 Preferrer Customer Price $488 for your truck. But, look it up to be sure I got the right year using this link ---->Appliction Guide When you find your year, make, model product info screen; scroll down on the right side until you get to filters etc.

If you are not a Preferred Customer (Jared is) you will only see list prices until you add the Preferred Customer option to your cart and then you will see the wholesale price.

Jared claims he can easily tell its increased his performance and he been boasting better mileage also. He does drive a lot of miles, over 100,000+ on his 2007 classic CC

It took about 1 hr to remove the old box and install it. He did most of the work, I handed him tools. LOL

Yah, the price is up there but so is the quality. No cheap plastic parts in these.

I had one on my 2008 GMC and I got one coming for my 2010 GMC 5.3L.

Btw - The filter box part (black tube and SS box) comes assembled as you see it on the truck, not in individual pieces that have to be put together.

Check out Quadzilla. It's a flasher. The downloaders you're actually downloading all the programs and then can switch on the fly, because you're just selecting between the programs. The flasher you pick which setting you want and download it. I had the Bully Dog in my truck for awhile. It only had three settings and you had to be on the top one for any power. I like the screen and such, but the power was nowhere near the Quadzilla. I went back to that. Once you have the flash you like you really don't change much. With the Allison smart trans every time you change you should start from a stop let it go thru the gears at 25% throttle then let it decelerate by itself, then 50% same way, then 75%, then 100% It lets the trans learn and adjust to the added power. I only run mine with their 70hp and I forget the torque increase. That is where Quadzilla really has it dialed in. I know several people with the edge that have had problems. My close buddy bought it and was really disappointed when he started playing with it. I ate him alive with whatever he threw into his with the 70hp I had in mine. He returned that and got think it was a something, forget, but still spanked him. He got worse mileage then me also and he was on the expressway at 60mph. I could never do that! I get between 19-20 around town and 22mpg on the highway with the air on and doing about 85mph. I had a K & N in the stock air box. You could hear it a little more and feel it off the line a little. I got an air raid on it now. Maybe a touch more then the K & N The bid difference is on the highway in the summer I saw the air intake temps drop from about 25 degrees above the outside air temp to within 2-3 degrees. Good luck Charlie

from injen website
During the 2007 SEMA show an official announcement was made launching the Co/Branded Injen/AMSOIL Power-Flow Diesel air intake systems.

Injen Technology and AMSOIL Inc. officially signed an agreement to cooperatively brand an all new diesel air intake system. Both Injen Technology and AMSOIL are established leaders within the performance industry and are known for innovation, quality and high performance products. These two highly acclaimed and successful companies came together and Co/Branded an advanced line of performance air intake systems called Diesel Power-Flow.

Representatives from both Injen and AMSOIL announced during the SEMA show, that the Power-Flow system is the only air intake system that incorporates an all new patent pending Injen Variable Induction Technology and an AMSOIL dry media Ea Nano-Fiber absolute efficiency air filter

Some of the top features and benefits will include:

Vi Technology (variable induction) will provide additional airflow and power on demand based upon the draw of the engine. There are four internal and totally independent valves designed to open and allow more air for those crucial moments when that extra power is required; passing, towing, climbing hills or track and off road racing.
AMSOIL Ea Nano-Fiber absolute efficiency custom designed air filter will filter out the finer dirt and dust particles up to 99.53% efficiency. For Diesel engines the Ea –filter removes 5 times more dust then traditional (paper) filter media and 50 times more dust then a wet gauze air filter. Injen Dyno tests show equivalent gains in horse power and torque. Incorporating the dry media allows for a simple cleaning by using a standard shop Vac.
Stainless steel pre-filters which will deflect the larger dirt particles commonly associated with immediate loss of air flow and power.
For added styling, proper air flow and that macho look, an all cast aluminum tube is included

You can anticipate seeing significant Co/Branding efforts to launch this powerful partnership in a wide variety of media and marketing materials along with a significant amount of race events, trade and consumer shows. The Injen/AMSOIL Diesel Power-Flow air intake systems will be available through all AMSOIL Dealers, most major automotive aftermarket retailers and wholesale distributors.

Injen/AMSOIL; The beginning of a New Era!
