2006 Polaris Fusion 600 electric problems - where to start!!

My 06 Polaris Fusion 600 started having electrical problems last weekend. It started out that the light would start dimming or flickering when accelerating. Then the light was just dim all the time. Then the gauge started working on and off. Then the light and gauge worked when I turned the sled on but shortly after the light dimmed and the gauge went off. And the handwarmers didn't seem to be doing anything, although it was bitterly cold so who knows.

Sled ran perfect besides that. Any ideas on where to start? I looked around for loose wires but couldn't find anything. And I'm a little scared of what something like this might cost if I brought it to a shop.

Thanks.

X3. Guarantee it. Those are the exact same symptoms mine had and it was the VR, even though when they brought it into Tom's Polaris in Onto, it worked just fine.... Told them to change it anyway, and never had an issue again.

iusmit - I just posted to the other item too. They have replacement ones that just go on the clutch cover and you won't have to tear apart the sled to fix it. Just unhook the harness and mount the new one and plug in. Don't bother trying to get to the other one. No fun....

Thanks.

Should I buy the VR from the 09/10 Polaris, as it sounds like it might have longer wires?

Mine has electric start. Don't know if that has anything to do with it.

How much work is involved in mounting the new one on the clutch cover? Sounds like a fairly easy job but that never seems to be the case.

I'd talk to the tech's at the dealership when you order it. Just make sure we have all of our facts straight. I'm not beyond admitting I've got something wrong, so just make sure when you order it. I don't know if it's the 09/10 VR, or if they've just made all of them (replacement ones too) able to be mounted on the clutch cover.

I do see that they use the same VR whether it's a 600, 700, or 800, so that's a good sign. The Poo website does not say that the 09/10 VR crosses over to the 06 sled, but that's because it's generally 'different', but I bet that is what they are telling you to use in the shop.
