There have been a few post asking about the Acadia's, I have been quick to say how much I like mine and still do but I'm worried about it now!

Last Sunday my wife, kids, mom and sister all went to a friends house for a party and I had to come later. My sister and my wife said when that got to our friends house they heard a knocking sound from the car. I came over to the party then a drove my moms car so her and my sister to stay later since my wife and I had to get the kids home for bed and my wife had to work Labor Day (her 5th Holiday in a row). So I drove them home in the Acadia and as I was driving heard this knocking sound. It changed with the speed of the engine and continued once I parked the car. I parked it and did not drive it till Tuesday when I called the dealer and they said drop it off tonight and we will work on it first on Wednesday.

The noise is consistent like a baseball card in the spokes of a bike.

Dealer called Wednesday afternoon after having it all day and said, yep it's knocking! but we don't have a clue to what it is.

We are calling GM tomorrow. Well Thursday came and the dealership called said still have know idea. They have pulled top half of the engine and are looking in to it. GM told them some BS about using after market oil filters and causing plugs in the top of the the engine. I use Mobil One Full sys, and Mobil One or Fram filters.

As of today they said they have pulled the engine and front drive lines. Now we wait till Monday!

I'll keep you posted and tell you what they find, but it appears if there is a problem with the oil filter it would affect all GM 3.6 engines. Also I post this on the Acadia Forum but have not gotten any responses. I did find a thread about a AMSOIL TSB looks like they might have a problem it there filter for the GM 3.6L.

Here is info on the car:
2007 with 36,368miles Still under 3 year/ 36,000 mile warranty. It was a demo they extend the 36,000 to 39,000+- to give me the full 36,000mi.

I thought that the Acadia had a 100,000 mile power train warrenty I would look into it

2007 GMC Acadia Warranty Program
Basic 3 year / 36,000 miles Contact a dealer about warranties & pricing
Free Maintenance N/A Contact a dealer about maintenance & pricing
Drivetrain 5 year / 100,000 miles
Roadside 5 year / 100,000 miles
Rust 6 year / 100,000 miles

They should have never went away from the 4.2 I6 engine, except for the first year, that engine was bullet proof and gets equally as good MPG as a similarly equiped Acadia.

Yep, you got it right I was just giving back ground info on the mileage etc. My point was the 3yr 36,000 is bumper to bumper, even thou I'm over the 36,000 I not b/c it was a demo and the mileage before being bought did not count against me. Either way GM is paying the bill on this one.

Transmission flex plate can make a knocking sound with they crack. Years ago we had a Jeep at work that was knocking, it was at the dealer for 2 wks before they discovered the cracked flex plate.

btw - Not all 3.6L engine use the same type of spin on oil filter. My 3.6L in my CTS4 uses this filter, 39 different GM models use it.

They have found the problem! Actually service manger told me today the the mechanic said it would be something long these lines from the start, but they did not want to say something and be wrong.

So here is the big news on a car with only 36,368miles had part of one of the pistion skirts banging around in the crank! So right now my dealer who has been great to work with! Is trying to get me an new engine. So we will see! I will up date this again when I know more, and try to find the cause.

Also I want to say thanks to Wiers GMC they real have been great for service. There about 1/2 out of my way but well worth it for the service. And actually they use to be sponcers of the site. They must have not renew this year, because I just check and did not see there name.

Happy to hear that you are getting results - I have to say I still have my 96 chevy blazer with the good ole 4.3 vortech - 158K and still rolling strong - doesn't burn oil and runs like a top. I know many out there may disagree but GM has things come and go but for some odd reason when they actually build something to last they have to go and re-engineer it to make better and guess what - usually ends up being junk. If anyone can remember an little motor called the quad - 4 - how many of those are still running??? Or how about GM's early diesel's? Oh and let us not forget what the did to the wonderfully designed SAAB turbo's - look up the engine sludging problem of the 99's and newer - my father has a 94 Saab with almost 200K not one problem with the oil but my 01 sludged up even using synthetic in about 100K even with religious maintanence LOL - the list goes on. I can pick up a good used Blazer anywhere for about 2K and drive till the wheels fall off.
Oh well I am happy that this fella was able to get the motor but consider him a lucky one - most times dealers give the average person a ton of crap and come back and say well GM will pay 40% - by the time you add it up you could take it to an engine shop and have them rebuild better than GM did originally.
Cheers

One last update, I did get my Acadia back, and its good as new! Should be its a new engine!

By the way I asked what this cost to do and no surprise it was $6,500 plus!

Glad it was not my bill!

we have an 07 Acadia and have had nothing but problems with it, Last issue was some kind of timing belt and they had to pull the entire engine, seems like we drive it for a week then the engine light comes on, we fix a problem, drive it another week, and the engine light comes on etc....... even the little things like the tv needed fixed, the lights, the power seat
the lumbar, The battery even needed replaced after 1 yr? ***. I love the vehicle though.
