2007 Polaris FST Reverse

Just replaced reverse spline gear and chain and we are having problems with reverse gear grinding. With the sled cold or on a stand reverse works great, after we ride it a bit and shift to reverse you can hear what sounds like the gear spinning on the chain and the track will not move. The chain is adjusted per the manual finger tight than backed off a 1/4 turn. Is there a trick to adjusting the chain or do we need to look at something else?
Thanks

you may have the reverse gear in backwards, on one side of the gear the teath are tappered to mesh more easily when you put it in reverse.

Reverse gear is in correct. It just slipps or grinds under load, works great on a stand. We tightened chain finger tight than backed off a 1/4 turn per manual, is that what works best?

Rotate the secondary clutch forward to get all the slack on the adjuster side of the chain. Than adjust the chain as you have been.

Mine did this once.....the little servo motor on the caincase that operates the reverse was loose. So when you went to put it in reverse it would move just enough to not go completely in gear. I took the small screws out that hold the motor and used blue loctite....problem was fixed.

First read all the pinned FAQs for FST at polarisfiles.com.

There if you are sure that the chain case was reassembled correctly (check that the coupler from the motor to the shift fork is intact) and that the jack shaft alignment has been checked, try loosening up the drive belt adjuster slightly.

GOOD LUCK
