2007 ski doo gsx 550 fan - engine suddenly quits on the trai - starts right back up

HELP - We are snowmobiling at Tower MN. Went out this morning got about 22 miles down the trail. Snowmobile quits suddenly, as if someone turned the key off. It starts right back up, and you can drive another 1/2 mile and it does it again. Took 40 restarts to get back to our rented cabin. What can we do to go snowmobiling tomorrow? We have lots of tools and a VOM.

Will it stay running with the fuel cap cracked open a bit? If so you have a kinked tank vent line.

Or your fuel pump has gone bad?

I don't think it is fuel, I think it is electrical.

We cracked the cap, same problem.

Gas line freeze up, are you running corn gas or non ethanol?

Non-ethanol. I has to be electrical.

Finally found the problem. A bad ignition switch. I would run from cold start up about 8 miles until the switch contacts warmed up, Then the contacts would open, killing the engine. Recycling the switch mad the contacts again for another 1/4 or so miles.

Very hard to diagnose this electrical problem from a fuel issue.
