2007 skidoo 500ss with broken front shock on rear suspension

I have a 2007 500ss and just found I broke the front shock in the rear suspension. It looks like a weld broke where the top arm attaches to the suspension. Clean break. Almost looks like someone cut it with a hack saw. In talking with the dealer it sounds like this has been a problem with the 500ss trail sleds. Just curious if anyone else has experienced this or if doo has done anything about it. Im a bit frustrated with this sled as the motor smoked with 80 miles on it and doo rebuilt instead of replaced. Blew up early January and sat in the shop until end of March when season was over because parts were on backorder. Looking at 2 options on the shock. Putting back what was in there...$200 or upgrading to the Adenaline shock $350. This is my wifes sled so I am leaning towards the standard but looking for input from others. Any info would be appreciated.

If it were mine....I'd check with somebody who works on shocks and get a set of pre-owned rebuildables for it. They will be able to tailor the shock to suit your wife's weight and riding style. A little pricey the first time, but next time all you pay for is the rebuild (probably around $25-$35 per shock).

I like Russholios idea to on the shocks. Sorry to hear about your bad luck with the SS. I'm riding an '05 that I bought new in '07. I have just under 13000 miles and have had not a single problem with the engine. General maintenance and some suspension parts is all Ive had to do.

is it the shock eye that broke off the end of the shaft? If so i had this happen on a 2007. i was back and forth with the same thoughts you are having whether to upgrade or replace with stock. since it was on the seld the kids use i decided to stay with stock. But then when i thought about it some more I decided to try to re-weld the eye back on and it worked just fine. The shaft is very hard material so penetration is a little difficult, at the same time you want to be careful not get too much heat and damage the seals. I have now used it for 2 seasons since and it has held up just fine.
