2008 150 opti amsoil interceptor

I thought it would be a good idea to put interceptor in my 2008 optimax 150 to cut down on the smell from the mercury oil. I figured that since it was a mid grade oil that it would be fine. However, when I was putting the box on the shelf, it says that it's not recommended for outboards and that hp injector is. I can't seem to find oil specs to find out if this is okay.

Does anyone know if this is acceptable? My motor is still under warranty and I don't want to void it.

Look at the notes, especially #5 in the outboard column.

Yep that's what's on the side of the box. I guess I'll dump it out and use the mixture for the snowmobiles.

Come to find out that the only reason that Ams oil doesn't have that listed on the box to use with the optimax is because of some bs government regulations. Interceptor is a better oil and is up to the ratings that the opti requires.

NO!

Your opti oil recommendation is for merc/quicksilver DFI only or premium plus as a substitute ...TCW-3 oils. Interceptor is not a TCW-3 oil...do not run it in the opti!!! My local merc dealer sells me premium plus (recommended oil for my 250xs) for $25/gallon. That's the same cost as HP wholesale.
You should also be running quickleen in every tank of gas and stabilizer if ethanol fuel. Proper fuel/oil is crucial in these engines...one clogged injector and looking at $3k minimum in repairs! Also make sure your entire fuel system has the ethanol proof lines.

I understand it doesn't have TCW-3 rating but that doesn't mean that it isn't the best oil in the world.

The reason that it isn't TCW-3 is because of the detergents that are in it. The detergents in Interceptor are superior than the TCW-3.

TCW: Two cycle winter

Interceptor has a higher rating for colder temperatures.
