I looked at a truck and just wondering what others think it is worth.

Truck has 35K miles on it and is in perfect shape.

Just wondering if anyone or if there are any folks that work at dealers could give me a rough estimate on what it would be worth. Trade-in, dealer retail, private party retail.

It does have the heavy duty towing package as an option all with a lot of other things so it's not bare bones XLT.

I did do the nada and kbb and they say trade-in with options is around 21K, dealer retail around 27K, private party 26K. I am just wondering if this is accurate.

Thanks,
Nate

Nate,

I traded my truck this past March. Beforehand, I spent a lot of time on-line at places like KBB and others. I found that the numbers posted are very close to real-world numbers. It's hard to find "Apples to Apples" with so many options and add-ons out there but I found that On-line Info has taken a lot of mystery out of buying vehicles. Everyone knows the value of any given vehicle and it should come down to a small window for negotiation between the buyer and seller.

Remember, the dealer is going to charge more to cover his expenses. An independent party should be asking less than a dealer.

Plug in all the relevant info at KBB and the price is going to be very close to what the vehicle is worth to a buyer like yourself.

Well said Gary...As a used car dealer myself I would agree to check the books. With that being said...They are only a guide. I have watched exact duplicate 4 year old trucks span over 8,000 because of miles, condition!, color, tires, etc. etc. etc....If the truck is what you are looking for then try to make the best deal you can on it. If it's super clean and has a lot of eye appeal, the dealer probably paid too much for it for you to buy it on the cheap side. But if you want to be cheap, I'm sure you can find a cheaper one that is rough!...Always remember you get what you pay for.
Good luck,
Ken

Thanks for the info. I bought it as seemed like to good of deal to pass up. I only paid 19K for it and all the books says dealer trade-in in is 21K, retail 27K, private 26K. I know the guy selling it and I think he was happier selling it to somebody he knew and he doesn't need the money. Finally I have a truck again. :)
