2009 Yamaha Nytro RTX pros vs cons

Looking at buying a new leftover '09 Nytro RTX, just curious if anyone has one and has some opinions on them, I know the handling is not the greatest with stock skis, handwarmers were an issue I guess, I love the performance of the motor, and also like the rider forward body style. What kind of upgrades did you do for the skis? What kind of mileage(I know it varies w/riding style)? I guess any comments I'd appreciate. Thanks

The biggest complaint with the handling was that they were real agressive, meaning a lot of bite and steep steering ratios. Great for snowcross and extreme X-country, ditch banging etc. A little too agressive for trail riding. They can be updated to the new front end geometry, but it was something like $1200 worth of parts to do it. If you are the agressive type, you might love it. The motor was in the 135 hp range, milage should be 16-18+ milage range, depending on your thumb, and the conditions. They were not real warm, but neither is the phazer, or my XP for that matter.

Jim,

I had a 2007 phazer and really liked it, the wife and kids didn't so I sold it. The yamaha is a good sled, and if you could find one at the right price I'd go for it. I'm looking at a 2009 800r xp any comments on that Jim.

The 2009 should already have the reworked front end geometry mentioned in the earlier post. My brother has one and he has fiddled with it for a year to finally get it handling decent. He revalved all the shocks, put on Pilot skis, added a skid coupling block (an arctic cat part...not sure which), he widened the ski stance, changed all the suspension setting until it feeled right. He probably did more. Nice engine though.

It was the 08 that had the front end that darted real bad on the trail. I took one out for a demo and could not wait to get back and get off. the 09 they say they took care of the problem.I do like the feel of the nytro. But I would have to ride one again before I buy.

I like the phazer ride, just like a dirt bike. Needs a gripper seat though. I have several miles on one (50+) on a couple occasions. My buddy has one of the first year models. He has had a ton of maint. issues with it, mostly front end ball joints and tie rod ends (replaces 3 times) Put on a diff. track to keep it from overheating when the tunnel froze up. Made a bunch of changes to it get it to handle decent. Rear suspension arm replaced with "updated" ones twice, all failed at the shock mount. He would like to get something diff. but he is so upside down in this one he has to keep it till it dies.
I would love to get one for my kid, to replace the one in my profile picture. He would not ride it hard enough to break it for a while. I just can't justify putting him on a sled that weighs 90 lbs. more then my TNT.

As far as the 800r XP, Never rode one, good power, but thirsty I hear. I love the XP chassis, light and strong. It will break if abused, but so will everything else in one way or another.
