2012 800 Switchback Assault Check Engine Light

Got 1 mile into my ride today and the check engine light flickered when i hit the throttle out of the corner. It went out so fast I couldn't tell what light it was. Well about 2 miles into the ride, it came on and the sled lost power. When I hit the throttle, the light comes on and the sled looses power. While just idling the light is not on. To get it on the trailer I hit the the throttle about 10 times and i would lose power each time, after the 10th attempt, It would keep power but the check engine light would stay on while giving it gas. after the sled was on the trailer, the check engine light went off and it idled fine.

It's a 2012 800 SBA with 1300 miles. I always have let it idle to 100 degrees prior to giving it throttle. there has been no other mechanical issues.

If anyone has any ideas let me know. Thanks.

Sounds like the DET sensor is going off then retarding the timing hence decrease in power. My 2010 800cfi did this and was a slow burn down on the crank piston. Hope you have better luck than I did.

Thanks for the response, but not what i needed to hear.

I've been riding polaris as long as I've snowmobiled and love this assault. But my god these things have problems. If this thing burns down, I think it may be time to switch brands. What problems do the 800 etec's have?

check engine light

i got the results back from the service center. it is a blown throttle position sensor. at least it isn't the engine yet!

they blow up more often then any polaris 800 i know of.....

I have an 800 etec and ride with a lot of them. A few have had their top end replaced due to recall but none have burned down. I know the higher elevation sleds may have more issues. Other than the cat 800 I think the etec is one of the more reliable engines on the market. But maybe my area is just having less problems.

That's what I have been hearing too. For what all manufacturers charge for sleds and as long as they have been making them you would think they would have them perfected by now...but then the EPA steps in and wrecks it all.

Ya the tree huggers wreck all the fun!

Look at diesel trucks.....up until 2006 = awesome
EPA said no uh uh.....you guys need to stop being so awesome. Bam emissions

the dealer i took my sled to sells both Doos and Polaris, they mechanics said doos seem to be made a little bit cheaper. they seem to fix more of them, but sell equal amounts. there is just no reason a 12k sled which costs as much as a nice used honda civic shouldn't run 10k miles with no problems.
