To all who are interested. We will have the SRViper coming soon to Greenland for Demo Rides. My D.M. is going to contact me Monday and give me a update as to when. Stay tuned and let the good stuff fall:) Thanks, Kip

I can tell you this much, Yamaha did great job showing riders how they can have performance in a trail sled and with even a better handling cat chassis we are witnessing the demise of the 2s in trail sleds. It may take some time but we are entering a new era, "in with the new and out with the old" as they say

I think you guys will like it. I rode two of them this past Saturday at Waldoch Sports in Forest Lake,Mn. They had three blue SE version, one 129 and two 141's. I wish they would have had a 137 version. You may find they have different state of tunes as for clutching, timing etc. The 129 I rode was kind of flat on top but had good low end grunt. One of the 141's I rode pulled hard from bottom to top. The other was kind of in between. They let us go out onto the trails single file with a leader but if you let the rider in front get a good lead you could hammer on it pretty good. We had several road appraches to cross where you could get good air, some long straights to open it up and some curves to check out the cornering. These things corner super flat. You have a rider forward position so they are easy to stand up on if need be. I got some good air on the road appraoches and they land nice and flat with a nice cushy feel in the back. All in all they should be a sweet ride. The exhaust sound wasn't too bad either with the redesigned system. Not a lawn tractor sound like I was hoping it NOT to be.

Here's the update I have guys. Just spoke with my D.M. and they are hammering out the demo schedule as we speak for our area. Sorry I don't have better new as far as a date goes but hopefully no later than tomorrow! I'll post again at that time. Thanks, Kip

I also rode at Waldoch Sports this past Saturday. Rode the 129 first and thought that it did a great job handling the bumps. I was one of the last to ride that day so there were some nice size bumps at the driveway crossings and on the flats. That rear suspension soaked up the bumps no problem. I hit those driveways very hard to see if they would be back breakers and you could sit on the seat no problem and take it, very impressed. Front end handled great. For me, the preload needed to be set different to put a little more weight up front for steering as it was just too light. Overall, awesome sled. I cleared one whole driveway and it handled that great. The 141 I rode did well, but not as good as the 129. Felt like better acceleration (assuming that to be just more track on the ground for better traction). Didn't feel the rear suspension soaked up the bumps as nice but that may just be a setting. Front end handled nicely as well. I don't stand up so don't have any opinion on that. The only complaint I had is the handle bar/grips. For me and also for another guy that was riding which I didn't know said it felt like I was holding by my fingertips. Seemed like I had to stretch a little farther for the brake or throttle so I could see getting a sore thumb after some riding. The bars curve down at somewhat of a 45 so maybe that as you don't have that raised portion of the grip to rest against. I also heard that the ones we rode don't have quite as much hp as the ones that will be sold as production sleds. Overall, I think they are some sweet sleds. Attached are some pics of the 141.

I agree with Yamahauler. The XTX SE is going to be the perfect sled for the U.P. though! It's what we've been waiting and asking for up here in God's Country!

One the the two 141's went like all out. The other was kind of in between and the 129 was flat as I said. I think the one that really ripped had the timing curve possibly advanced a bit because it would do a pop pop pop when you got out of the throttle after a burst of the throttle.

How about the seat comfort? Is it going to be ok on 200 mile days?

I'm thinking a 137" for the U.P. for me, but I never get off trail & don't want the negatives of having the 1.6 lug track. Even thinking of gearing it up for better top end!

I'm very surprised that Yamaha didn't have these sleds dialed in already!
It's like they were not ready for the showing or the first test rides!
If they have been testing this chassis-engine combo for months, why would they show up to their big showing with sleds that don't perform at the best they can & I heard many other things like seats not tightened, crappy paint jobs.....etc

I never saw any crappy paint jobs. The seats just have a little fit issue by the gas tanks. One guy at the show in MPLS said that some of the paint was wet on the truck down to the show (fresh off the press) but keep in mind these are prototypes. Also Yamaha has been in their plant for about 8-9 months. But we have not had snow for that long so you know what I am saying. You need snow to test snowmobiles properly.

That's the one I focused in on immediately! Need to win the lottery.

snocrazy,

I'll set you up with some good financing buddy! Fit and finish was not horrible and paint looked very good. They look better in person than in the pics. I agree with journeyman, the seat needs to be a bit better fit where it meets the fuel tank but they assured us it would. These sleds still get the trusy Yamaha 5 yr. warranty and we have already made several changes to the chassis. They will be ready and they will be Yamaha dependable. I know it will be a uphill battle for Yamaha to regain any marketshare especially when they are producing low numbers but at the dealer show they recommitted to the snowmobile industry and they informed us that they want their share of the pie. I think it will take some time but we've been there before and I believe we will be again. This will be a good start:) Trails are great up here guys so come and tear it up!

anyone know the dry weight of the new Vipers? specifically the XTX SE? Yamaha doesn't seem to be posting it anywhere

Paint seemed fine by me. Seat was comfy enough but didn't ride all that far. I would put a taller wind shield on for sure if you are just trail riding.
Journey, now that you mention the pop noise, I didn't ride that one but did hear it as others drove away and thought that was weird. Wouldn't it being somewhat funny if it had a governor on it, lol. One thing that is hard with test driving in these situations is that the sled is set up in the middle for settings, not for you specifically. So when people drive and really complain, remember that a few adjustments may go a long ways and if I was buying I would test drive and tweak, etc... to see if it can be dialed in. If not dialed in to my liking than probably not the sled for me.
