2015 Indy starter

just wondering what you think is the problem. I just put a new battery in but the starter does not engage. it spins but does not kick out all the way to engage the gear. it looks to be a two part starter? starter itself looks to be on the right side and like an actuator on the other?

Unfortunately a common problem. Likely the bendix, see if you can engage it with the clutch by hand. They tend to get gummed up with belt dust. If you can engage it by hand and/or pull start, probably need to get in there and clean it out and then lube with something that won’t attract the belt dust. I’ve seen this on my sled as well as others. Unfortunately haven’t figured out the best lubricant yet.
