2016 Polaris 600 2ndary Question

Well I found a nice clean used sled and bought it.

Took it for a spin. Kept hearing the clutch bang once in a while and found that the previous owner must have ridden it this way ( 3 trips of 400 miles )

The 2ndary bolt was tight with 3 shims/washers and the one big spacer but the clutch would slide about a 1/4 0f inch on the shaft.

My 1999 500 xc I have is tight and has a key. The new 2016 600, the shaft is splined ( no key ).

Is this movement by design or do I remove shims to get the clutch to just barely not slid on the spline shaft?

FYI....I know about the offset and belt tension.

Any advise be helpful.

Your 500 is rusted on the shaft , they do slide in and out to follow the driven clutch

I have a 2015 indy 600 and the clutch makes a bang when I take off from a complete stop usually(Like taking off from a stop sign). But I have been told by the dealer and many others that it is completely normal

TX Redneck....That's kind of what I'm hearing. If you can do me a favor. If you are in front of your 2andary. Place your hands on either side of the clutch and can you slide your clutch a small distance on the shaft?

If so this is where the clutch is making the noise. I'm thinking to remove the 1 small washer to not allow the clutch to move along the shaft.

My ‘08 really clunked when getting back on the throttle, with 12k plus on that sled, I can tell you it never caused an issue. My ‘16 clunks some getting on the throttle, but not nearly as much as the ‘08 ever did. With 5700+ on the ‘16 now, as rp7x said, it’s normal. And probably saves on belt wear if it is moving like it’s suppposed to.

that is usually an indication that alignment is off between the 2 clutches....when you engage the throttle and the clutch engages the slamming occurs due to the sliding clutch banging against a washer or stop because it snaps into alignment or towards alignment and hits a hard stop while aligning....I would say it needs moved a tad so it centers without banging against a hard stop....they always say keep your clutches clean but I put a tiny tiny, rubbed with me fingers, film of grease on the sliding shaft so clutch moves smoothly back and forth and centers really good without any grease flying round.....me 2c

Polaris wants .060" float on the driven clutch , if it doesn't float the jack shaft bearing will fail

Well TX all ,

I have maintained my 1999 500xc since snow check and plan on the same with the 2016.

There was no travel with the 2ndary on my 500 and since I just bought the 2016 and only put 80 miles on is why I have asked here.

Appears to be OK to have some travel.

I appreciate all the information.
