25th Anniversary ATV Rally and Going for the Record in Hurley, WI, May 27th-31st

Get ready for the biggest ATV Rally of the year on Memorial Day weekend May 27th-31st in Hurley & Mercer, WI... This year is the 25th Anniversary of the event and is expected to draw nearly 2000 ATV enthusiasts... It is no cost to participate in most of the events... except of course a WI trail sticker or registration (WI allows out of state residents to register their machines for 2 years for I believe $35)... the only events that cost anything are the poker run and if you enter in the mudpit competition on Sunday.... There are over 200 miles of ATV trails to ride all weekend in Iron County, WI. On Saturday May 29th, at 11 am in Hurley we will be attempting to break the Guinness Book record for the longest ATV parade. Parade lineup begins at 7am until the time of the parade... Come be part of history... we need at least 1633 ATVs to break the record... Check out the website at www.atvparade.net and become a fan on facebook (search for "Guinness attempt worlds largest atv parade")... I hope to see everyone there!!!

ATV Rally Lodging

Just wanted to give everyone a heads up... if you plan on riding in Michigan during the rally or already have a MI trail sticker, trail 2 will be open from Wakefield, MI to the Wisconsin border to access out of state lodging... MI ORV stickers are $16.25... Lodging will be filling up fast in Hurley and the surrounding communities, because Hurley's graduation is the same weekend. Just figured I'd help everyone out a bit more.

Trail 2

Trail 2 was not an official Michigan trail for ATVs until late last year... It since has been opened as an official route, although alot of riders rode the trail anyways... In the past it has only been recognized as a snowmobile trail... Forget all of that and let's ride!!!

ATV Rally

If you register for the poker run for this years rally and participate in the parade, you will receive a free trail map, a rally bandana, and a rally t-shirt.

Also, you can legally ride from Watersmeet to Hurley. You would need to take the trail from Watersmeet to Marenisco, take various county roads to Wakefield from Marenisco (all county road shoulders are open to ATV traffic in Gogebic County except for main highways), and then take trail 2 from Wakefield to Hurley. I've done it, it can be done...

I was up this last weekend to ride. WI trails are closed except the grade to Mercer according to the local law.Just was warned not to ride on closed trails.Took a ride to Wakefield after that. I wish WI would set a date to open all trails. Alot of people tell you that the trails are open all year, not true according to the local law.

The trails in Iron County, WI open up as trail conditions permit... The reason for this is due to wetlands issues... If they were to allow people to ride on some of these trails that go through swamplands and such and the riders had too much fun in the mud, it would cause problems with the environmentalists and in the long run cause trails to be shut down permanently... You are right, Trail 17 that runs south to Mercer is open, as well as some of the ATV routes that follow gravel roads... I have been told more trails are looking dry enough to open very soon... I have found in years past, that most of the trails in Iron County are open by May 1st.

Just so everyone is aware... UTVs can now be legally ridden in Iron County, WI (Hurley, Mercer, Saxon & other surrounding communities) The county board ok'd the ordinance and you can now ride UTVs under the same laws as ATVs...

Also all Iron County trails will be open for riding on May 3rd...

Bear Chasers

Not sure if everyone on here heard, but Bear Chasers on Island Lake burned down... I've been informed by the Hurley Chamber though that they will have some type of large tent set up at the location and will still be running some type of business during the rally serving food and alcohol. They are planning on rebuilding and hope to be ready for snowmobile season.

12 days left until the rally begins... I'm being told that there are already over 1000 riders pre-registered... If you haven't seen it yet, there is a photo of one of the rallies from the past on the cover of the June 2010 issue of Dirt Wheels magazine!!! Come to Hurley on the 29th of May to be part of an incredible World Record!!!

If you are planning on participating in the rally on Memorial Day Weekend and plan on riding from Michigan (Lake Gogebic or outside of Wakefield), there will be maps available as to the quickest route to Hurley on county roads if trails are not available. The Ironwood Chamber of Commerce will have some maps available as well as other locations. I will post more when info becomes available.

The record was not broken... We fell short of tying it by 100 ATVs exactly... 101 from breaking it... If all of the people who decided to sit on their ATVs on the sides of the parade route and watch the parade would have been in it, we would have smashed it...

I couldn't believe all the people on ATV's not involved, watching from the sidelines! Plus all the people who couldn't make it due to Hurley graduation at 1:00! We still had a great time & the weather was perfect. The kids loved riding their little ATV's in the parade. There's always next year.
